Ryse gets a season pass too!

Microsoft has made it a three-for-three! The Xbox One isn’t out yet, but now every single one of its high profile launch games has been announced to have a Season Pass. First, Forza was given a Car Pass, then Dead Rising 3 was confirmed to be getting pre-purchased extra content. Now it’s Ryse: Son of Rome’s turn to try and tempt you to cough up extra.

For just $20 on top of your already $60 game, you’ll be able to get the following, says Microsoft.

  • Four add-on packs which contain a total of 14 multiplayer maps, a brand-new mode , six player skins, new level events, and access to a new tier of weapons and armor
  • An in-game sword and shield with bonus attributes for use in multiplayer that are exclusive to the Season Pass

According to Microsoft’s Xbox wire, that actually presents a significant saving, because it’s 25% less than what you’d pay if you were to buy each of the add-on packs on their own.

I hate season passes; you end up buying a bunch of add-on content sight unseen, with no idea how good they might end up being. Why would you pre-buy DLC? The only game I bought a season pass for was Borderlands 2 and though I ended up enjoying that game’s DLC, only two of the four expansions were what I’d consider “good” – so It’s a mistake I’ll never make again.  Thankfully, while Season Passes seem to still be all the rage, online passes seem to be going the way of the dodo.

While this news was announced in the hope that it’ll get something within your nether regions to Ryse, the only thing I’m seeing Ryse is the cost of the full game.

Sadly, people will still buy this. Because “Gotta have it all”, and no good reason.

Yup, and developers will keep on peppering games with DLC and these garbagey Season Passes because of it.

I was fine buying additional tracks for Rocksmith and Skyrim’s DLC, where at least some time was spent after release on bringing the player something new (or something requested by the players). But then you get total bastards like Crapcom and EA who have seemingly finished designing and programming more than 90% of their DLC before the game even goes to market and they simply withhold it from the initial experience to make a lot more money… not that that approach has worked for Capcom. I’m not at all fond of that approach.

LOL. Look at our ama-zing launch titles, pay for the game, then pay for more because we didnt quite get enough of your money first time around.

Season passes can fuck right off, down there with micro transactions and dlc.

Yup… I get the purpose of Season Passes… But I can’t help feeling you’re paying for content that simply should’ve made the original release in the first place…

I also get that people copy games, but all the studios are doing is encouraging people to do it MORE by adding extra costs onto the games all the time……

I think we can expect most of the new games on the new consoles to do this. $60 will buy you 75% of the game, and another $20 the other 25%. Sad man, really sad.

It’s like when cans went from 360ml to 330ml but stayed the same price.

I’m so sick of season passes, but the DLC’s work out cheaper through it (not always by much I might add), and then, when the season pass ends after a year, you gotta fork out for the other DLC’s that are released anyway.

Lets all jump on the bandwagon and join the idiotic masses! Buy it because you “SAVE”…. Not that you really needed it in the first place.

How to do the Season Pass correctly:
“Buy our game and get a FREE Season Pass!”

I’m sure they’d sell more games and make more profit this way.

So are you saying that they should sell you the whole game once off? That is just ludicrous

Only season pass I bought was Bioshock Infinite. And it was more of an emotional purchase. I couldn’t let go of the fact that the game was over. I WANTED MOAR!!

Give it a couple of months and the $70 price tag will discreetly become the norm. Yet the game will be shorter like COD because of the high production values.
