There’s a new Witcher 3 bug that’s ruining the experience

Man, it seems like that Witcher 3, despite being an undeniably great game, is filled with problems, doesn’t it? CD Projekt RED has been pretty damned pro-active in fixing the myriad bugs that still affect the various platforms – but their last patch may have inadvertently added a new one. Users are reporting that many main quests are no longer dishing out experience points. Which. Obviously, detracts from the enjoyment a little.

Says one affected user:

“Finished the Get junior quest and found it a bit strange that such a big quest did not give any XP. Checked my XP before entering his estate (624) and after the number is the (726) which I got for killing his henchmen. Did the last part and got Quest complete and still no XP. Watched some youtube playthroughs of the quest and they all receive 500 XP for finishing the quest.

Finished the Family matters quest and found it a bit strange that such a big quest did not give any XP. Checked my XP before finishing the quest and after and the number is the same. Watched some youtube playthroughs of the quest and they all receive 200 XP for finishing the quest.”

It’s worth noting that in The Witcher 3, if your 5 levels above the recommended level for a mission, you won’t earn experience anyway – but this isn’t that. People are within the requisite levels and still being stiffed on XP.

Here’s another user’s experience:

“Sooner or later in game, i dont get any exp by solving mainquests. I tried it two times from the last valid safe file on but it happend in both attempts. I still get exp by solving side quests but sooner or later in the game there is this point from wich on i dont get any exp for the mainquests. Can somebody help me please?! I waited for years to have the game and now the experiance is messed up by such a stupid bug.”

Both players are playing the game on PS4.. CDPR is aware of the issue, and has its top men working to fix it. Expect another patch soon. Yes, another one.

Yeah. I like the game, but some of the bugs are game breaking, on a console no less (no excuse of different hardware setups) AND surely must have been found in pre-testing. And they delayed.

Still playing, still having fun, but the level of evangelical support CDPR got before the release was just ridiculous.

It might be ridiculous, but in all truth a lot of people just love giving evangelical support for things that are far worse.

I kinda feel like Dory playing this game. Level 9, I must now go and get this level 7 main quest out the way … ooo look another side quest let’s go do that. If I didn’t get xp for main quests I might just not notice.

I’ve just struck lvl 17 and noticed the same thing, I’m way ahead on my monster/human beating quota and the main quests sit on lvl 13 etc. But I have to admit that the side quests are exquisite, what’s funny about it is that one quest took me longer than a whole cod campaign and every little bit of it was more entertaining…

Just a little bit of warning, before you strike lvl 18 or so, do a few of the main quests, I’ve been trying my dearest to do everything systematically, but I still have a bunch of quests that are now greyed out….

Why are they greyed out? Level or Narrative clash.

It’s almost like the rating system on Borderlands, where the mission won’t hold a XP reward or that it’d be tedious to do….

Just finished the Family matters main quest and Baron side quest. What a story, damn! That quest alone has more lore and story than the entire Destiny campaign.

Nep Nep is looking for the wife of the Baron, Nep found the daughter, it says I must continue finding clues but there is nothing on the map. Where does Nep go before being distracted and spend another 5 hours picking flowers 🙂

If Nep Nep has a problem with a locked door, he should check 2 levels up 😉

I said it before the time. I hope this does not go the way of Skyrim, which was the internets darling when it came out, then more and more articles (this site included) served to list all the faults and flaws and why it was not as good as eveyone thought. (I still maintain if you have put more 100 hours into a game and then criticise it, you missed the point. But I get it about Skyrim I really do. nothing you did in the game mattered)

I am playing on Xbox One. I have found a few flaws in the game. I do not like a few things. I could focus on them, but I will not.

A few years ago a company bought our competitors product for 3 months they told us how much better it was. After three months they begged us for help, because it was not so good. Our competitor made the product visually pretty, stylish and so forth. It looked good. Our stuff looks like a box. I am not saying Witcher 3 is like this, but in a way it is.

A good game is one that has enough good qualities that we ignore the flaws for a long enough time period to finish or let the game run its course. All games have flaws. IMHO

Still an amazing game! Story telling is brilliant some of the side quest well most of them are better than most game’s campaign’s… I really do not have any any complaint about the game! Enjoying absolutely every little bit from fighting to reading books and making potions:)
