Twas the season to equip boots of +5 award-winning! 2012 was a big year for RPGs, as we saw the Diablo 3 finally released, alongside the likes of Guild Wars 2 and Kingdoms of Amalur. Some scored big, some failed hard and some were practically meh. But only one of those genre games could stand head and shoulders above the rest. And that winner is…
Mass Effect 3
Commander Shepard finally wrapped up the war against the Reapers, and despite a massive controversy over the ending, the rest of the journey was satisfactory, absorbing and absolutely mesmerising to watch unfold.
But it’s not just the action and character building that made Mass Effect 3 so special, but rather the support that the game received after launch, in order to keep interest in it high. A strong team-based multiplayer, biweekly ‘Operations’ that rewarded players, solid DLC campaigns and free online additions only helped strengthen the game, making this experience our RPG of the year.
