Cyberpunk 2077 will be “Far, far bigger” than The Witcher 3

big

Thanks to MGS V falling apart at the end and some frankly appalling microtransactions, The Witcher 3 is now back, firmly atop my game of the year list. While it certainly wasn’t perfect, with spotty writing, a fiddly UI and a wealth of other issues that have now mostly been patched up, it did open world right – weaving a decent narrative within a sandbox, which isn’t a particularly easy thing to do.

The game also felt enormous, even if it wasn’t necessarily as big as it seemed. It’s certainly something I could with more of, though I have to admit to growing a bit weary of standard, or even subverted Fantasy tropes. To that end, I’m ludicrously excited for CD Projekt Red’s next game, Cyberpunk 2077, which according to visual effects artist Jose Texeira is huge. Really, really huge.

“Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before,” said Teixeira. “Far, far bigger. We’re really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.”

The enormity and complexity of The Witcher 3 was the perfect training ground, says Texeira, adding that those working on the futuristic RPG have learned much from their adventures making The Witcher.

“If anything, working on The Witcher 3 was a really good and often brutal learning experience,” said Teixeira. “Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it.

“I have a lot of things that I want to change and do better the next time around, and I can guarantee that almost everyone in that studio has something that they go ‘I did this this time, next time I can do it differently, I can do it better’.”

There’s no word on when the game is out, but I think we can all safely assume that’s no time soon.

I’d expect a Ciri cameo. She mentioned sci-fi stuff when talking to Geralt about world-hopping.

So many feels? Like feelings of the boobs? Are these the feelings we’re talking about? Cause those happened. On many occasions. Throughout the story.

W1 is nothing like W2, which is nothing like W3. 1 is definitely dated, it was made using a modified version of the NWN engine after all, 2 was fun but with fiddly combat that can be made better with a mod, but 3 is fantastic.

Don’t still fuck around with The Witcher 1 and 2. The Witcher 3 as a video game is damn near perfect. If the graphics blow my socks off then it would be the perfect game.

The other thing that can put people off is the story telling. Story telling in video games is not the best medium but the The Witcher 3 does it well. So expect a lot of conversations.
Combat is decent too with a lot of build and play style options. There is even a “god mode” option through skills and potions.
And CDPR has handled open world and quests really well. I would say the best so far.

I would say, read the intro book to get familiar with Geralt and the first book Blood of Elves for an intro to Ciri. Playing Witcher 1 will just make you feel like you stuck in the past.

THis really sounds good, If the narrative will be anything like the Witcher I am in. Not to mention I don’t remember playing an RPG set in a future so the whole idea is awesome!

There hasn’t been an update of sales since the 6 weeks figures. But the Witcher 3 just showed how it is. No DRM for PC except for digital sales. No DRM for consoles except for digital sales.

75% retail sales. But they say retail is dying.
Over a million PC sales with most of those sales coming from retail. But they say they need DRM because piracy is stealing PC sales.

Witcher 3 shows that you don’t need DRM. With DRM it’s about 50/50 that means there is 25% of people who can’t buy. Those people are not then pirating, they just can’t buy because of DRM.

The Witcher 3 product also has value unlike DRM games which has no value.

Don’t Support DRM. The Witcher 3 shows us that there is no reason for DRM. Cyberpunk 2077 is coming.
