I don’t think that there is anyone here who has not played at least one Prince Of Persia game. Whether it was the classic platformer, the revived Ubisoft version or that bizarre 3D incarnation of the game from 1998, Prince Of Persia has been one of the longest-running franchises out there. And my oh my, how it has grown.
I still vaguely remember the first time that I ever played Prince Of Persia. While all the cool kids had PlayStation Ones and Sega Saturns, I had to make do with an ancient 386 PC, that had that game installed on it. And it was an absolute bastard to play, but in a good way.
The very first Prince Of Persia was sadistic, unforgiving and genuinely happy when you died a horrible death for the umpteenth time. It was essentially, the prototype for Dark Souls. And it’s a game that will always hold a special place in my heart. Fast forward a couple of years, and we got the 3D version of the Prince, a game that was faithful but boring. It was until Ubisoft got their hands on the franchise, that it really took off, thanks to the Sands Of Time gameplay mechanic.
A year later, and we had Warrior Within, before 2005 brought us The Two Thrones, which was an epic end to that trilogy. Despite it being ridiculously easy however, the 2008 Prince Of Persia game will always be my favourite though, thanks to a jaw-droppingly beautiful artistic design.
So what’s your fondest memory of the Prince?

Damn Straight Admiral…. And to think I know people who HAVEN’T played that Trilogy yet….
If they port them into a new Engine, and preserve the Free Flow Combat system… I’d be all over it like a fat kid on cake-pops 🙂

I enjoyed all the Ubi ones but the first side scroller played in black & white with a CGA emulator because I didn’t have a colour monitor will always be my favourite memory.

That is still my favourite one. I replayed all of them last year (except 3d, that was just terrible).

Why didn’t you use music that Inon Zur composed? I was so annoyed with the music.

Copyright issues I’m afraid. If I did that, then the video would be littered with Youtube ads from third-parties, thus affecting the value of it. And I don’t want to inflict that on you guys.

I was afraid that would be the answer – and a pity too. Zur’s scores are brilliant!

I personally adored the elegance and beauty produced in Prince Of Persia 2008, a sequel would be epic, to see a more vast land of Persia swarming in the dark god’s corruption, subtitled something like “Retribution” as the Prince released absolute hell in order to save Elika.
