Sony confident in Destiny as a PS4 seller

Destiny

Sony’s European boss Jim Ryan believes that the game that’ll most convince people to buy a PlayStation 4 is not a first party title, but rather Activision and Bungie’s Destiny. Speaking with CVG, Ryan said that there are many games that’ll help sell the PS4 coming this year, but the definitive one has to be bungie’s open-world shooter.

“If I had to pick one, it’d probably be Destiny. We’re partnered up with Activision on that. The intensity and depth that the two organizations are working at is something I’ve never seen before,” he said. “Both really want to make this work in a really serious way.

“The game is obviously multiformat so it will be out on Xbox One and 360, as it will be on PS3. But I think, certainly in our eyes, the main prize is the PS4 version of the game. We want to make that absolutely enormous.”

Much like with Watch Dogs, of which nearly 60% of its sales were on PlayStation 4, Sony’s nearly convinced the world that Destiny is a game to played on their new gen consoles.

A closed Destiny Alpha kicks off today for the lucky few who’ve received codes. We’ve got access to the Alpha, so we’ll let you know soon how the game’s shaping up, and remove that remaining air of mystery surrounding the shooter.

The PlayStation versions of the game will also pack in extra content that Microsoft’s consoles won’t be getting, which is starting to look like a bit of a running theme this generation.

But hang on a second: If this is going to be on Xbox 360 as well, why would I rush out to go buy a PS 4 to play this game?
    I’m confused…

My theory is that the Twilight vampires were only made sparkly to counterbalance the emotional black hole that is Bella, as demonstrated by the plank & 2 bricks that acted as her.

Is MS pushing Destiny at all for the Xbox One? I don’t recall see them doing so during the course of my random internet meanderings. PS4 is hyping the crap out of it – so I’m not surprised people think that’s the main platform.

MS advertising exposure is directly related to my coffee intake? I wield much power, but that would never have occurred to me. It seems so random. I didn’t see any adverts last night, now I wonder if that’s related to my Wimpy breakfast.

Sony is smart: They’ve got actual exclusives of the cover shooter variety – The Order, Uncharted – the Japanese cult obsession, depressed reality – Bloodborne – the family stuff, the younger kids stuff, the brilliant Indie stuff (oh my god No Man’s Sky), the racing stuff. But then to cover their bases, they use Bungie (who they’ve probably wanted after their brilliance in Halo), for FPS and social integration.

Well done, Sony. You’ve covered your bases, you’ve solidified my purchase and, with that big, beautiful variety, secured future investment.

Sony only has Destiny lined up for December. Destiny relies on servers to happen. Servers get overcrowded, Destiny goes BOOM!

It’s not out in December. It’s out in September. Sure. I’ve no doubt they’ll have server issues. But I don’t see what that means it will never be played or why it won’t sell PS4’s,

Destiny is a lazy mashup of Halo and Borderlands. Bungie really struggled putting Halo: ODST and Halo: Reach together that fans started to doubt the series.

So, Bungie used the extra 10% secret sauce available on the Xbone to also get to 1080p?? Pixel counters rejoice! LOL!????

If devs claim Destiny is “1080p 30 fps” on both, PS4 will still have a higher average framerate (less drops), less screen tearing, and better visual effects (AA, shadows, particles, etc.)
