Don't expect 'Titan' anytime soon

Blizzard has a way of making people wait for their games for ages.  Claiming dedication to quality (which I doubt considering Diablo III), they have no problem pushing back release dates until games meet their standards.  Along those lines, rumour has it that you shouldn’t expect to see ‘Titan’ on the shelves for another few years.

‘Titan’ is the codename for the new MMO that Blizzard is developing.  According to sources, the title has been reset and the bulk of the development team reallocated.  Going from 100 down to approximately 30 developers, the core team will start over.  The title is now only expected to be released in 2016 at the earliest.

Recently, Blizzard reviewed Titan and concluded it needed big design and technology changes to meet the bar for quality. As the core team figures out what to do, Blizzard is shifting developers to work on World of Warcraft, Blizzard All-Stars, the Diablo III expansion, cinematics and Battle.net.

It will be interesting to see if Blizzard can hold onto their position as MMO leader.  While World of Warcraft continues to be the benchmark when it comes to MMOs, it has been haemorrhaging users – who knows how much longer it will survive.  Continuing with their subscription model despite other MMOs taking a free-to-play approach, I wonder if Blizzard will still be the company to watch out for by the time they are ready to share ‘Titan’ with the world.  Also, considering that they are reseting development, it will be interesting to see which model they pursue when the time comes to release the new MMO.

Do you have faith in Blizzard to release a mind-blowing game when they’re ready?  Or will this game fall short of expectations?

All I want from Blizzard is Warcraft 4, and it must be a pureblood RTS. Unfortuantely I don’t think that will happen…

Let’s not forget Heart of the Swarm was an amazing game, but it would have been hard to screw that up.

D3 was a major fail by all standards, but I believe they learn from mistakes.

Troubled development does not make for a good game. Cut your losses, move on, revisit it later when you have a real plan.

Is it too soon to start calling it Titan Forever – 37 Colonial Marines?

world of warcraft was a hobby, if not an obsession, of mine for many years, and then they released mists of pandaria and my lvl 90 dps dk’s health looked like a phone number to uranus and i just couldn’t bring myself to lvl my other characters through with the pokemon creatures all over the place. i got diablo 3 as a gift and sadly that was a waste of a game, with errors and a repetitive story line that doesn’t change from difficulty to difficulty. i’ve never played starcraft 2, but many friends rave about it constantly.

so that’s one in 3 recent games/expansions that’s actually good. so, my guess is “titan” will could go either way, epic or fail.

i just don’t want to take another error 37 to the knee.

It’s cool to hate D3, play it now after patch 1.07 it’s actually a good game with 1 million daily users, the main fault was that it could never live up to the hype, also Diablo 2 wasn’t perfect on launch either.

note the “was a fantastic game”, and i agree that when it worked you could play a fantastic game, once, then uninstall it and never look at it again, because once you finished it that first time, it sucked worse than anything else sucked in the world, until the xbone was announced.

          I thoroughly enjoyed Diablo 3.

Comparing it to 2, it was a bit short story wise, but it was an awesome story.

Also, I think people have grown a lot through the years. Play D2 now…(or counterstrike, or Warcraft3 or Starcraft or Bouldar’s Gate…or Quake LMCTF ^.^)

I promise you, your memories are better than what those games actually are and unfortunately you are measuring D3 against your memories.

Especially when comparing it to D2 😉

ummmm, this may sound horrible but i have never played diablo 2, i saw it played by others, but i didn’t touch it personally, my pc’s always sucked back in those days. so i can’t compare d3 to d2.

i’ve played warcraft 3 and starcraft recently and still enjoyed them more than diablo 3.

i enjoy many, many things more than diablo 3.

To each his own. 🙂 There are many things I enjoy more than D3 myself

I stell felt Diablo 3 was a true testament to the hack ‘n Slash / dungeon crawler genre. If people wanted an RPG, with an immense story they picked the wrong game…

No Diablo 3 was great. Had exactly what made Diablo such a successful game, lots of bosses, loads of looting/items, great multiplayer and a engaging storyline and improved graphics. The only annoying thing was the constant updates.
