Best-action-game

Lights! Camera! ACTION! Gaming can be cerebral, engaging or even tender depending on the experience that you’re looking for. But sometimes, you want a game that will rip your shirt off and make you grow hairy explosions on your chest. Action games were back with a vengeance this year, but there could be only one…winner.

And the winner is… Bayonetta 2!

Bayonetta-2

Bayonetta 2, one of the finest games of the year, almost never made it. With the original game suffering underwhelming sales numbers, it looked like the plug would be pulled on the titular bullet witch. Nintendo arrived to save the day however, bankrolling development on a sequel that Platinum Games worked on with gusto.

And that enthusiasm shined on like a crazy diamond in the finished game. Bright, beautiful and breath-taking, Bayonetta 2 is action distilled to its purest level. A combat system that felt rewarding, a scale that constantly escalates, doesn’t give a damn and will kick anyone in the nuts if they try to tell you that single-player games are dead, Bayonetta 2 is our action game of the year.

Honourable Mentions:

Titanfall and Dark Souls 2.
