You can access developer settings on the Xbox One

But you probably shouldn’t. Every single Xbox One will soon include the ability to function as a devkit, allowing indie and garage developers take a crack at making their own Xbox One games. Microsoft’s said that functionality will be coming in the future. Users have found a way to access debug options already.

By going to the Xbox System Settings menu and pressing the left bumper, right bumper, left trigger, right trigger buttons in sequence, a new developer menu shows up , allowing access to  ‘Sandbox ID’, crash dump and debug options. It’s probably not something you should mess with though, because you could end up breaking your Xbox.

"Changing the settings in this menu is only intended for developers for Xbox One, and this alone does not turn the console into a development kit," Microsoft rep told Kotaku.

"We strongly advise consumers against changing these settings as it could result in their Xbox One becoming unusable. Customers who have put their consoles into this developer setting can revert by restoring factory defaults under Settings / System, select Restore Factory Defaults."

Apparently, playing with the developer functions right now could stop the console from booting, which would lead to many tears. An apparently confirmed Xbox One developer says:

“Please don’t mess with anything here for the time being, especially the sandbox ID. You risk putting your box into a boot loop.”

Microsoft’s indie development functionality is coming in the way of the hilariously named ID@Box, but there’s no word of when that will be coming. the same developer says:

“I have no idea how far along the ID@Xbox program is. There are many concerns such as privacy, security, stability etc.., that need to be sorted out before we can allow anyone and everyone to simply sideload an app onto their box.”

You can bet your ass though that hacker types are already poking around with the developer menu, checking debug logs and poking them with a stick to find some sort of vulnerability they can use to crack the Xbox One open.

The snake on the right just seems to go “Woah, that guys is dangerous.”

I can’t help but wonder why he jerked the bag?
It’s probably surprised the poor snake causing the attack.
