Xbox One controller fixed for Titanfall

Titanfall controller1

So, Titanfall got a horrifically ugly Xbox One controller specially made. But it’s not just the aesthetics that got an overhaul – the actual controller software is also getting reworked. I love the Xbox One controller – it’s comfy to hold and has vibrating triggers – and now it’s getting even better.

Whether you opt to purchase the limited edition Titanfall controller (gah! my eyes!) or you stick with your current Xbox One controller, things are changing. The limited edition version comes preloaded with the software-based enhancements, while the rest of the Xbox One population will receive it as an update. So, what changes? According to a Respawn representative:

The analog sticks are more precise, and we worked very closely with [Microsoft].

Oh cool, greater precision – that’s quite nice. Respawn also claimed that the hardware upscaled is getting better, so maybe the resolution will improve. Maybe.

This actually makes me wonder about something, though. I know we get different servers for various parts of the world, but I actually think it’s good to separate console and PC gamers, particularly when it comes to shooters. Sure, everyone wants to be able to play with their friends, regardless of platform. However, console gamers get aim assist and needed an upgrade to controllers to have greater analogue stick precision, while PC gamers get to run the game with prettier graphics and way greater precision. Is that even fair?

I like the idea of the controllers getting a retune, regardless of the reasons. Hopefully this means that all games going forward can take advantage of the greater precision on Xbox One controllers – it already is a fantastic piece of machinery. When PS4 eventually gets a version of Titanfall that isn’t exclusive to Microsoft platforms, I wonder if it will also need a controller upgrade, or if it’s already more precise.

Native resolution is what it is.. upscaling can’t ever improve that. All it can do is work better at hiding the flaws of lower resolution. So they may be able to give it a slightly more polished look with better upscaling, but it will never be that 100% crisp untarnished image.

Upscaling is like applying Vaseline over your screen.

I’m not sure I understand the question Zoe, why wouldn’t it be fair? Or are you specifically referring to the possibility of cross platform between console/PC?

And no serious console gamer should ever use aim assist, why not just have a kill command.

I think what she’s trying to say is that PC offers greater precision with the mouse. Whilst I believe that one can be just as precise with a controller, I do think PC guys tend to be more precise, in general. So it is a fair point IMO.

      • Brian Murphy

I don’t think it’s possible for a controller to keep up even remotely with a mouse, I just got a new mouse for Xmas, that allows me to control the DPI from the mouse itself. I can set it to 8200 dpi, or a ‘medium’ setting, or a ‘low’ setting, just from the mouse. So, no matter what game I’m playing I can always alter the sensitivity if need be. And controllers are nowhere near as responsive as 8200 dpi, not even close.

But, the ‘not fair’ part, was really where I was curious. They haven’t actually made it cross-platform, so what’s not fair?

i was saying how people always whine about WANTING the cross platform play, but it would actually be unfair if they did because of the difference in precision :)

          • Brian Murphy

Ahhhh ok, I gotcha, fully agree then :) Carry on! Easiest way to prove this point is start a multi-player game on console, and turn Aim Assist off, see how many people freak the eff out and whine and complain. That should tell the story right there. (Hilarious, really).

There are quite a few controllers that you can buy that will allow you to adjust the tension and sensitivity of your analogue sticks. So imo some controllers can be fairly comparable to a mouse these days.

          • Brian Murphy

I think if that were the case, there’d be no issues w/ cross platform play.

        • Rags

Not that anyone needs more than 800dpi. :P
But yeah there is no way a controller can keep up with a mouse.

          • Brian Murphy

I actually use the medium setting, so probably 5-6000 DPI in WoW, lol. Though, if I could just get used to pushing buttons rather than being a clicker, that wouldn’t be a necessity lol.

In FPS’ though, being able to do a virtually instantaneous 360 just to get a view from all sides is really helpful haha.

or just give us the option to if u are going to cross platform just drop some specs on the pc down to xbox one kinda like how u can customized non ranked games vs ranked

  • deagledaemon

Personally, I think that controller looks awesome!

  • JustAnotherGamer

So i’m not the only one that thinks the controller looks like ass.

    • Brian Murphy

Yeah, I find it pretty ugly also.

    • Gareth L (That Guy)

Argh, Xbox One PR. What are you actually doing? Do you even exist?

I don’t get the “Titanfall” connection. I blame the weak marketing of the game in terms of identifiable design elements. I mean this could by all means *BE* a custom KTM controller. I don’t see it as a “Titanfall” controller.

  • Hammersteyn

Sooooooo the analogs on the normal controller isn’t as precise as this controller?

    • bspells001

no they updated thexbox one controller for titanfall and their is a titanfall themed controlled insides are the same but the patch fix was forced upon by titanfall

  • Gerhard Davids

    That controller is hawt!
Now I just need an xbone… wait no I dont.

    • Weerwolf

Wonder when we’re getting the Xbox One controller for Windows

      • Gerhard Davids

This man is asking the questions that matter!

  • ElimiNathan

I actually think the controller looks awesome

  • ElimiNathan

Why now news on Titanfall having NO local servers yet ? Or did I miss the article ?

  • Adrian Santa Cruz

The vibration on my controller stop working.
