X – a new game from Monolith Soft (video post)

‘X’ from Monolith Soft looks really impressive. So much so that I did my first ever youtube video to talk about it.

In case you can’t watch the video with sound (or don’t want to), I’m excited about this game – it’s got some great graphics and looks like a really impressive RPG. Plus, it’s gonna be a Wii U exclusive!

Brought to you by the brains behind the mecha in Final Fantasy VII and Chrono Trigger, as well as Xenogears, Xenoblade and Xenosaga, it combines urban and open world environments. Plus, you seem to get the old school fighting elements – swords, magic and mecha! It’s coming in 2014 and is definitely on my radar. I think this could be a game that will make some RPG fans who don’t have a Wii U go out and get one.

And here is the trailer:

LoL! “Wii U nje nje nje” – that is the exact response I was thinking of when you mentioned Wii U Exclusive! You seem excited – watching trailer now.

Looks interesting, but not good enough for me to go out and get a Wii U. I love Mecha and I love RPG, but have not found the combo for me yet.

What I am very worried about is…. is this a monster hunting game??under the map on the HUD I see a timer ticking down…which is usually the case for monster hunting games

What? No, how can someone who played xenoblade even think that? its a spiritual sequal to xenoblade/gears.

Thats the mech fuel you see counting down. Like xenogears, you are going to have to keep those bad boys fueled if you want to use them.

I know, but the fuel gauge is different from the timer that is there constantly on top the mini-map, as in MonHun games, which makes me worried though it looks very much like MonHun too. You never know if it is a spin-off or spiritual successor/sequel .

You KNOW you are hurtin for info on a game when you are googlin through month old discussions XD.
What you are talking about is the actual time of day, like xenoblade, ‘X’ uses 24 hour ‘military’ time. It just happens to conveniently display it in numbers instead of the the less precise ‘clock’ style that only told you the ‘hour’ (which only lasted a minute, which means minutes were seconds…) around the minimap in xenoblade. Still worried? If youll notice, when it says say, 9:00 or 13:00, its daytime, and when its 20:00 or 22:00 its night time. And it doesnt look any more monster hunter than xenoblade facing off against t-rexes in makna forest.

I also forgot to mention MGSV, not that it’s an RPG, but Mein Gott, that Red Band trailer was hectic and awesome at the same time. I was gobsmacked.

The vocals detracted a bit from the song, I would like to hear an instrumental version as a battle theme or something.

Yeah, true I actually, I would love for this to be a battle theme, in the wake of Xenoblade. though Shimomura won’t be composing.

Somnus played in the 2nd trailer if I’m not mistaken? I quite liked the new song, only for the fact that it’s something new lol been listening to Somnus for a very long time now

          • Argentil

            June 13, 2013 at 13:15

Who composed the new song? It sounded very different.

          • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

            June 13, 2013 at 13:16

Still Shimomura , she’s composing all the songs, though that’s just my assumption…

          • Argentil

            June 13, 2013 at 13:28

After listening to it without video (to avoid the distraction from the visuals), it sounds like it could be her. Every time I watch the damn thing, the shinies take most of my attention. Lots of shinies in that trailer.

          • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

            June 13, 2013 at 13:36

It has the choir vocals in the background and she lurvs that . sounds like her too but man, them shines, are overflowing

            June 13, 2013 at 13:42

It’s a very Final Fantasy thing those vocals. Uematsu-san used them, Doodab from FFXIII used them. It’s just a subconscious association that comes with the vocals that lead to grandiose expectations.

          • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

            June 13, 2013 at 13:46

Uematsu never used it as much as her though. Doodab? lol the vocals do lead to a more grandiose feeling, which helped that trailer to be more epic

            June 13, 2013 at 13:47

Liberi Fatali, One Winged Angel. Those are the two most obvious songs that come to mind.

          • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

            June 13, 2013 at 13:51

Yeah, but he uses them mostly for special events such as a main theme or big boss. Shimomura on the other hand likes using it throughout her compositions on a single game.

            June 13, 2013 at 13:51

            I guess she’s just a drama queen then 😀

The second FFXV trailer actually features an all new track, with echoes of Somnus. It’s got a more battle-theme sound to it.

          • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

            June 13, 2013 at 14:09

Yeah. Indeed, It’s the same music song of the old extended trailer I think too. think I’m gonna need to get surround sound at home for this game
