Bad News Barrett

Welcome to Monday night Lazygamer, the longest running episodic video game news website in history! And I’m afraid we’ve got some news that may be bad or good depending on how you take it!

According to a thread on NeoGAF, WWE 2K15’s proper PS4 and Xbox One versions will be skipping out on a ton of match content. Here’s what’s missing from WWE 2K15 in terms of over the top contests that was gleaned from recent video streams:

1 vs 1:

  • Inferno
  • Ladder
  • I Quit
  • 2 out of 3 Falls
  • Special Referee (yet is in the showcase mode)
  • Casket (yet is in the Showcase mode)
  • 3 stages of hell (Yet is in the showcase mode)
  • Backstage Brawl

2 vs 2:

  • Tornado Tag
  • Extreme Rules
  • Hell in a Cell
  • Ladder
  • Steel Cage
  • Table
  • TLC
  • Elimination Tornado
  • Elimination Table
  • Mixed
  • Backstage Brawl

Triple Threat:

  • Falls Count Anywhere
  • 2 out of 3 Falls
  • No DQ
  • Ladder
  • Steel Cage
  • TLC
  • Backstage Brawl

Fatal 4 Way/4-Man:

  • Battle Royal
  • Hell in a Cell
  • Ladder
  • Steel Cage
  • Table
  • TLC
  • Falls Count Anywhere
  • 2 out of 3 Falls
  • No DQ
  • Backstage Brawl

6-Man:

  • Elimination Chamber Tag
  • Championship Scramble (Was removed in 2k14, but notable still)

Handicap Matches:

  • All handicap matches

Here’s what’s actually in the game, or some of it at least, thanks to some handy screenshots from YouTube:

Now for some, the exclusion of a six man tables match may be a bit of a sting. But I genuinely don’t see those matches as being necessary. WWE games are at present, a reflection of the TV product. A product that has streamlined itself in recent years. Sure, the show may be as predictable as ever and I miss some of the crazier days inspired by the antics of competition such as ECW and WCW, but times change. And clearly, the game reflects that. So yes, you don’t have a hell in a cell match. But you still have a steel cage match which is pretty much exactly the same.

No dedicated tables match? Hell, TLC is still included. Let’s face facts here, as most matches that were available in previous games were mere iterations of each other. Falls Count Anywhere, No Holds Barred, Extreme Rules and No Disqualification matches are all one and the same. And when you have that many matches on offer, the product is going to end up being diluted.

In fact, it seems that the game is catering more to one on one matches. And at this point, I’m well aware that we’re getting a transitional game in the series. Right now, I’m more concerned with the final product having core gameplay which can match the visuals. I want a game where I can throw an Irish Whip so hard that it turns my opponent into a Catholic.

Yes, there are a bunch of modes missing, but there is new content as well to make up for that. And I’d honestly rather have a smoother product than a Jack of all trades that happens to be a master of none. Reviews for the game on launch day however, which is usually never a good sign. Still, good or bad, people will snap this game up regardless. And that’s good news for the WWE shareholders.

  1. You caught any Lucha Underground D? Has a lot of the normal silliness, but they’ve had at least 1 really good match every episode.

I think if you use the game as local multiplayer fodder, you #FeelIt a lot more. Gone are 4-player TLC and HIAC matches, but the 6-person variants are still in place meaning you have to have AI botching things up.

That’s the part I don’t understand, why is TLC not in triple threat and 4 way matches, or Hell In A Cell not in 4 way matches, but they can run 6 people?

None of this makes up for the lack of custom entrances and music for CAWs.
