Capcom recently announced that it would be bringing Resident Evil: Revelations – originally for the 3DS, and probably the best game in the franchise for years – to other systems, including the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and even the Wii U. Notice what’s missing? Yup; the game won’t be released on the PlayStation Vita. Capcom explains why. Poorly.

“When we were developing Revelations for new platforms we really wanted to hone in on the experience you get with a large format screen, surround sound, etc,” Said Capcom’s Mike Lunn in the comments on the PlayStation Blog (via Eurogamer).

“This type of setup really helps players get sucked into the horror vibe and enjoy the game to its fullest (sic) extent.”

WHAT? It was originally a game on Nintendo’s handheld 3DS. Saying it’s best on larger screens is really just taking the piss. Our handheld game is not suitable for handhelds! Naturally, fans pointed out this little bit of hypocrisy, to which Lunn replied:

“3DS and Vita infrastructure let alone developing games for them are extremely different beasts,” adding “Even just the screens as you mention are completely different resolutions and functions.”

Wasn’t that the entire point behind Capcom’s MT Framework middleware? So that they could quickly and easily port games to other platforms? And yes, the PS3 is widely known for being technically similar to the goddamned PS3! My head, it hurts!

Ahh, but it’s not just a simple port, they say. No, it’ll include new features and content, and more than likely some sort of disc-locked DLC.

“Revelations is not just a ‘filter’ slapped on the previous version. Our team literally went in and re-textured (sometimes recreated in whole) the models used for this version so rest assured it will look fantastic,” Lunn said.

Still, Capcom really needs to grow a pair. If you hate the Vita and don’t think it’s worth porting because nobody actually owns a Vita, then just say so. While we’re on that point…remember when Sony announced an exclusive Resident Evil game for the PSP at E3 a few years back? What ever happened to that?
