We constantly hear how gaming damages kids and creates violent monsters, or how it is anti-social and can ruin relationships. But what does the actual research have to say about that?
Well to be fair a quick infographic isn’t going to answer that question accurately but it does give us some sound bites to throw out at the next braai.
Key points to take from this
- Violent shooters aren’t even in the top three genres of video games
- 83% of parents know exactly what games their kids are playing
- only 9% of kids under 18 are classified as hardcore, it’s not addictive
- 63% of parents believe video games are a positive part of their kids’ life
The stats are a little old and only reflect the American market but I think it’s an interesting look on our hobby
