Where do you fit in the Hearthstone ranked pool?

Completely unrelated pool

I haven’t touched Hearthstone for months. I don’t care what any of you say… deck building skills and strategy be damned! Hearthstone is a pure game of luck. At least, that’s what I whisper when I cry myself to sleep every night. I just want to forget my shameful Leper Gnome card showing off my lowly rank 24 status. How good are you at the game? Blizzard have released some stats which should offer you some insight.

Here’s what they have to say (via Battle.net)

Recently, we’ve seen some comments from our players that feel they are not performing well in Ranked Play compared to others, or disappointed by the fact that they haven’t hit Legend rank. We’re here to let you know that you’re actually doing better than you think! In fact, most of Hearthstone’s Ranked Play players lie between Ranks 25 and 15. Many players aspire to acquire the unique Hearthstone card back each season that awaits at Rank 20. Even going from Rank 20 to Rank 15 is an impressive feat.

STATS

Huh, guess I’m not so bad then? I’m lumped up with a whopping 75% of terrible Hearthstone players. I think I can go out and face the world once more!

As expected, it is incredibly difficult to reach the higher ranks. Only 2% of Hearthstone players have made it to the top #1 position, with an even fewer 0.5% reaching the Legend rank. Keep in mind that there are 20 million Hearthstone players. Reaching that rank is quite something!

I don’t think I would ever have the patience (or skill for that matter) to crack rank 15. I have insane urges to chuck my iPad every time I am the victim of that horrible polymorph card. IT TAKES SKILL THEY SAY!

Granted, I am just terrible at the game, so I’ll find any excuse to bitch. What about you? Where do you fit in the table above?

  1. I’ve always wanted to try a game like this. Years back I was drawn towards Magic the Gathering but my friend didn’t want to play since according to him it had some connection with tarot cards or something, which are unchristian presumably. Well it does come in card form, albeit expensive card form sadly 😛

As someone who used to play Magic on and off for years, I find Hearthstone scratches that same basic itch for me but is much easier to commit to. It’s totally possible to play casually without actually spending any money. I’ve been doing this for months since the game came out. You can do daily quests for gold, and play the arena mode for the best rewards for your buck.

Arena is kind of a combination of sealed and draft in Magic. You get randomized cards to draft from, but you’re not drafting together with other players. You get three cards, you pick one to add to your deck, repeat 30 times and you’re done. Then see how many wins you can get before you lose three times, and it maxes out at 12 wins for the best rewards.

You don’t keep the cards you draft, but you’re guaranteed to get at least a pack of cards for your collection, plus more gold and such. If you do well enough, it can actually pay for itself. Highly recommended for non-expert players to build your collection while playing. You may as well give it a try and see if you like it, it’s free. 🙂

Thanks for info! I am running out of reasons not to check out the game, in fact, I think I just now ran out of them 😛

Magic is a good game, but in my opinion Hearthstone is even better. They have nothing to do with tarot. They both have demons though, so watch out. 😛 “Unchristian”. Be worried about what is universally right and wrong, good and bad instead of what is christian or not, and you’ll have a simpler life 🙂

Thanks man I appreciate it! You speak the truth and you need not worry – you’re preaching to the choir in this case 😉

Highest my wife and I have hit is Rank 11, we usually bounce around rank 15. She plays Mage and myself Priest. The first few days of the month are crazy since everyone seems to have amazing decks but after that it starts to settle and you can climb a bit.

Yeah, the first week or so of the season (read: month) is pretty crazy because the ladder gets reset. You’re much more likely to run into players with good decks (or just better players in general) at lower ranks. It’s not as bad as it was in the beta though, where everybody got reset to rank 25. Now, the rank you ended the previous month with gives you a staggered starting position. For example, legend rank players start all the way up at rank 16, and it goes down from there.

Stopped playing it two days after it was released, never found it very appealing.

I’m not sure how statistically sound their research is. I’d think that most people who don’t play in a month

are just bundled into the lowbie ranks.
