Super Star Wars

Yep, it most certainly is Star Wars day. To celebrate, I was originally going to wear my Sith lord bathrobe, and nothing else in an attempt to realise my potential as Darth Scrotum. But then I realised that we’re supposed to celebrate the magic of Star Wars, instead of turning people off of the franchise and  not feed more money into Disney’s latest money-printing machine. So that got me thinking, about some of the best Star Wars games out there.

And honestly, I can’t narrow it down to just one game. I’ve got too much love for multiple games in the franchise, even the terrible ones. Star Wars: Pod-Racer was a gripping racing game and one of the few decent games released based on the horrid Episode 1: The Phantom Menace movie. Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds took the successful Age Of Empires II formula, and added lasers to the mix for a kickass strategy game.

Maybe you wanted something that allowed you to smell a laser on your tailpipe as you did a run through the trenches of the Death Star, something which the Rogue Squadron games offered. Maybe you wanted to truly feel the power of the Force, as you realised that size did not matter when you brought down an entire Star Destroyer in The Force Unleashed. The less said about the sequel however, the better.

Force Unleashed

Hell, maybe you were a masochist, and wanted to experience a special kind of bullet hell in the SNES Super Star Wars games. Maybe you wanted to see how your Jedi skills would hold up against actual people, resulting in numerous multiplayer games of the Quake 3-powered Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast. Whatever your taste, there were plenty of options to choose from with Star Wars. I mean, right now, I’m even playing Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi. Because reasons. So what’s your favourite Star Wars game?

  1. KOTOR, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter and Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

All of them are brilliant games in their own right.

I would actually put x-wing alliance above x-wing vs tie fighter. Allience was what xwing vs tie fighter should have been.

Never played Alliance. I think nostalgia also plays a huge role in my fond memories of XWvTF

I would recommend that you get it on GOG. It is on special at the moment. Played it the other day. Graphics is obviously a lot dated but I still had a lot of fun with it.

Tie Fighter because anything old is cool nowadays.

i missed the KOTOR boat and the other old starwars games, so i cant claim elitism points for that =/
went back to battlefront 2 recently, that game REALLY hasnt aged well… game feels like trash.

force unleashed series is pretty solid. i got to use a lightsabre the way i always wanted, thats all that matters.

The saber combat is cool, but where it REALLY shines is in the story and in throwing things around with the Force!

the story was ok, felt more like a paralell universe than filler gaps etc. wasnt bad, just not memorable. played it fairly recently and have already forgotten the main plot points.
main character wasnt quite as angsty as anakin in the 2nd and 3rd movie, so plus points for that.
force control and control in general actually felt pretty janky to me.

Throwing things (read:People) around with the Force is just so damn epic.

I remember, that while playing Dark Messiah, you could pick someone up with the TK if your rage bar was ful. I like to bind a shortcut key to max rage, and ONLY play with the TK power, and imagine I’m some medieval Jedi!

I still maintain that TFU is the BEST Star Wars story ever told, the gameplay however (apart from throwing things around) was quite “regular”

So many Star Wars game that I loved playing it’s difficult to choose just one. Galactic Battlegrounds, KOTOR 1 (preferred 1 to 2) and the Jedi Knight series (everything from Dark Forces to Academy) would be at the top of my list.

Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, crazy freedom of movement and feeling of power which hasn’t really been repeated since. Also it had a bit of a cliff hanger ending which never saw a sequel, which was a pity. Special mention for the crazy multiplayer and Jedi duel mode.

I thoroughly enjoyed Rebel Assault, KOTOR and the whole Jedi Knight series as I was growing up – particularly Outcast and Academy. Aside from the turn-based combat in KOTOR – that still stands out as one of the best RPGs I’ve ever played (only being narrowly beaten by Mass Effect).

Difficult to choose between KotoR games and Rebellion. More of a strategy player so perhaps that should win out in the end. Empire at war was so dissapoints…wow…much sadness

The Super Stars Wars Trilogy on the SNES back in the day was very action packed pretty good for its time but very unforgiving and incredibly difficult, on brave it is hard at times but you would have to be a legendary gamer to complete all three of those games on Jedi difficulty.
