We talk Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn at Gamescom

Final Fantasy XIV had a shoddy start a few years ago in 2010. It was received poorly by loads of people, forcing the game to be pretty much a failure. A Realm Reborn, the redesigned and fixed version of the original, was launched in 2013. It did a whole lot better.

We had a chat with Naoki Yoshida, both the director and producer of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn at Gamescom. Being Japanese, he was accompanied by a translator, which is why this interview seems a little longer than it actually is. Even though I never understood him, I really liked the guy. Interestingly enough, I had to add subtitles for myself, because you can’t really hear a word I’m saying.

I asked him the usual stuff, but I also asked him what games he plays in his spare time. Obviously, Final Fantasy XIV is one of them, but he also said he is quite excited for Evolve as well as the new Fable, which I found rather interesting.

I’ve never played an online Final Fantasy game. I am a huge fan of the entire series though, especially the older ones such as VI and VII. Is XIV worth a try? Are you a regular subscriber?

  1. If I had the internet and free time to make the subscription worthwhile I would probably be playing this right now.

Just over 100m as per the restraining order, but it’ll never escape.

I think it’s just come out of beta so it’s only a matter of time until a cabbage god is released.

As good as this game is… I wont be able to play it. Simply no time to play it. This is the kind of game you need to spend a good 4 to 6 hours playing in one sitting. I dont have that time. Work is my final fantasy online lol

Myself and my Wife play and enjoy it tons. We have been since 2010. I play casual (1 to 2 hours) a day so you do not need too much time. I think there is a buddy invite promotion on at the moment so if you are interested, let me know and we can maybe help you 🙂

Meh, not excited for fable legends. After what they did with Fable 3 and Fable legends, no thanks. Though I am excited for Evolve. And of course, The Witcher 3 ( The Witcher 2 was my fav game back in 2012), Destiny and (hate me) Bloodborne.
