We are all very proud of the guys of Energy eSports for getting invited to the ESWC to play Dota 2. There they will be taking on the likes of Evil Geniuses. In fact, they play eG today, and you can watch and show your support.
That’s right, today is D-Day (D for Dota?) for the guys from Energy eSports. So much Dota today, I hope they’re well rested.
The first game is at 10:30 this morning when Energy takes on the Korean team, Muhan. Next up, eG at 12 followed by aAa at 2:30. At 3:45 they go up against 4FC and at 5 this evening they’ll take on Insight eSports. The top three teams qualify for groups, so let’s show them our support – if only we were there to blow some vuvuzelas. You can buy a tournament ticket via Dota 2, or go watch the live stream here.
Good luck boys, South Africa is rooting for you! We are already so proud of you for getting to the ESWC, imagine how we’ll just burst if you make it through.

Yesterday and today. I really am feeling kak though. Wanna chunder something awful like every 15 or 20 minutes. Dunno why, been since Tuesday eve.
If I hadn’t resigned 2 weeks ago my boss would’ve killed me. But, I’m out in 2 weeks anyway, so no diff.

Yeah but you know when one team gets ahead its tough to pull it back. eG just ran away with the game there, sadly.
Now, for a nab, why is an early Rosh so beneficial? I’ve got 0 Dota2 experience, mine’s all in Dota.
aAa at 2:30, they’re tied on points with eG, so that should also be a good game to watch. Hopefully we can still pull it back with the other teams and get to knockout rounds.
Edit: I don’t have the bandwidth left to watch the other games. That one game took 600mb’s of data. Damn.

That early Rosh would have given everyone in the team 200 gold before the creeps had started dying (a huge boost to supports – warding/counter-warding, etc). The hero who killed Rosh would have also received additional gold. Plus the XP reward is a great boost for early game phase.
That could have turned that entire game on its head. It was a great idea. A shame.
I’m keen to watch the next one too. They play well. Better than I expected. But I think the name also got to them after they went behind. Ya know? I dunno. I couldn’t play at that level. 😀
Edit: Pity about not having enough data. I’m sure Zoe will post a round up of the matches tomorrow?

DotA is tough. And these South Africans take it seriously. We’ve got a good local scene from what I’ve gathered. I’ve not been into it for too long but can see the guys are really good. Energy can make things happen. A little more of this exposure will be great for them and local eSports Keen!
I have a group of friendly mates who don’t mind playing with low level players to help ’em out. Don’t care much for their win/loss stats like a lot of other players. Join some time for a laugh.

Its not depressing, that’s my point. Listen, I lasted in a job for 2 and a half years when my colleagues lasted at most 3 months. I have this knack for perseverance that few have. Unless it comes to washing dishes. Then, I’ll do it when they get up out of the sink and slap me in the face. That’s why I pay someone else to do it.

My point: simply that its a challenge to get better. Isn’t that the entire appeal of it? If it was depressing, nobody would play it besides the elite few. Its one of the most played games out there, and certainly most played on steam.

a level one rosh, if the whole team pulled out and let luna be the only one in the rosh pit, drops enough xp to boost luna to level 4 or something and like 500g + gold for the team, hows that for an advantage against a level one weaver.

It was taking too long and EG figured it out eventually. Although they almost got a kill on EG when they pulled out. I figure they thought it wasn’t worth the risk. Imagine they all got nuked in there by EG? 😛

But like the shoutcasters said, they could’ve faked out, sent one person to go fake it in the lanes, and get Rosh down, albeit a little slower. Oh well, doesn’t matter now. At least it was a good strategy that didn’t quite work out. Better than just sucking.

nah, they made the right call by pulling out. they didnt have a rosh lineup, and sending a lone support to juke out EG would have made them take even longer.
remember my point on how EG know how to make the most of their advantage, if En had taken too long, it would have turned out horribly.

the creeps had just spawned, and were making their way into lane, had they waited any longer, all the lanes would have had 3 minutes of uncontested farm, giving the entire team a bigger advantage than a single hero could get out of a level 1 rosh.

i learnt most of my stuff by just playing
but listening to people and watching pro games and streams and stuff helps you focus.
mostly practise and getting your mechanics right.
carries must farm, supports must spend all their gold on wards and its a team game, talk to your team.

Haha, but in all seriousness, I only have 2 Steam friends who play. Sargon and Mads (who plays Guild Wars 2 and BF much more than DOTA). I don’t mind duking it out for a while getting my arse slapped 15 ways from Sunday though.

i wouldnt really say so.
remember, EG are a top tier team, our mechanics were all good, and we had a few good plays, but the difference came in when EG had an advantage, they knew when and how to use it and push it into a snowballing situation.
considering that, I dont think the game was as one sided as it looked.
once the weaver had first blood, and realised that they couldnt stop him from farming in the offlane, he knew he had the advantage and abused it heavilly.
luna vs weaver isnt really a strong combo, and with earth shakers tiny mana pool, and a perseverance up on weaver already, there was nothing they could do to stop it.
seem did ok on the midlane aswell, he didnt have the denies, but he atleast was forcing the puck to miss last hits. the team dynamic and experience difference between the two teams was shown there and once EG tested the waters on mid, it was all downhill from there.
at that point the freefarming juggernaught wasnt even an issue.

Aw, they lost to both aAa and 4FC, meaning they’re out of the competition. They still have Insight to play, and I’m hoping they win for at least a consolation game.
The big game up live now is 4FC vs aAa, and its a big one. eG is top of the log, and they’ll easily beat their last opponents.
