Watch Dogs reclassified, gets PC specs

Watch dogs potential victim

Ubisoft’s long awaited Watch Dogs is only a few months away now. Well, assuming it doesn’t get delayed, again. I suppose despite having watches they can’t tell time, am I right? No? Okay fine! But something seems to have happened during the extra development time – the game had to be reclassified by the Australian government.

Back in September, it was classified as MA15+ for having strong impact themes and violence, moderate impact language, nudity and sex and mild impact drug use. Now, in a classification dated 11 March, the game has been assessed and rated R18+. Why? Well, according to VG247:

The highest content warning is for high impact violence, but there are also strong impact warnings for themes, drug use and sex, and moderate warnings for language and nudity. The overall classification includes “references to sexual violence”, a major no-no in Australian media.

So, did Ubisoft change and intensify Watch Dogs, or did they just request a new rating? We’re still waiting for ESRB or PEGI ratings for Watch Dogs – perhaps those are also being reassessed. Meanwhile, the minimum PC specs have been released in the wild via twitter:

  • CPU: IntelCore 2 Quad Q8400 2.66Ghz or AMDPhenom II X4 940 3.0Ghz
  • Memory: 6GB RAM
  • Video Card: 1024 VRAM DirectX 11 Shader 5.0
  • Sound Card: DirectX9
  • Hard Disk: 25 GB

The recommended specs? Why they’re:

  • CPU: Core i7 3770 @ 3.5Ghz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0Ghz
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • OS: Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7 (SP1) or Windows 8 (64 bit only)
  • Video Card: GeForce GTX 560 Ti/ Radeon HD 7750

Oh, and here is an awesome link from the developers themselves if you’re unsure if you can play Watch Dogs: just go here and the website will analyze your PC to let you know. It works for a whole variety of games. I think that’s pretty rad.

I’m excited for Watch Dogs to finally emerge – it’s about time! I’m ready to climb aboard the hype train and give it a go, I just wish it would launch already.

Got the recommended specs. Those btw don’t look like the game will be a slouch, graphically. Just saying, #downgradegate people.

Massive electrical storms so bad it kills toaster and microwave. Tv Pc, Xbox DVD player all fine thanks to surge protector. Its UK made, paid R500 bucks for it 6 years ago.

            March 12, 2014 at 12:04

No amount of surge protectors would have helped. We had a direct strike. Lost 3 tvs,my server, all my networking equipment, dstv, fridge, microwave, kettle (i have spares cause life without coffee = suicide) and a whole lot of other stuff.

Edit: Hell my walls are being removed to fix burnt wiring.

            March 12, 2014 at 12:10

I dunno man about no amount of surge protectors. The one I use, cant remember name. If direct strike will only kill the surge protector and stop it going through.

            March 12, 2014 at 12:14

Actually there is not a system in the world that is 100% effective against a direct lightning strike. But then again that is what lightning rods are for. Too bad mine seems to be made of plastic or something.

            March 12, 2014 at 12:18

Jip, Roodepoort is notorious for bad lightning… If we see any lightning in the distance or hear a faint rumble, then we unplug our telephone line and PC’s

          • Kromas

            March 12, 2014 at 12:19

I am pretty much protected from most lightning issues except a direct strike. It really is a million in one chance of it happening. Guess I won that lotto. 🙁
