I was excited when I heard that Valkyria Chronicles was coming to Steam. It was one of my favorite gaming experiences on PS3, combining some unique story telling with excellent gameplay, strategy and design. I was glad that PC gamers would finally get their hands on this gem, and it seems they were glad, too.
Valkyria Chronicles debuted this week on Steam at number one. It is currently ahead of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Assassin’s Creed Unity and even the Just Cause Collection which is 80% off. John Clark, the senior VP of Commercial Publishing for SEGA Europe said in a statement,
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the fans for their support in the phenomenal success of this launch. We’re also delighted at the response from the Steam community which indicates that newcomers to the series are finding it as enchanting and engaging as those who have played it before.
The game is currently for sale on Steam for $20. It is worth every penny, but for those who are stingy, I suppose it will also end up on sale in December. Still, I would recommend picking this up if you’re looking for a game that combines real time strategy with unit upgrades and relationships. It’s a deep experience and dammit, all this talking about it makes me want to load it up on my PS3 again.
Are you one of the many who helped this game rise to the top of the charts? It certainly deserves to be on top, although I think the way Ubisoft treated its PC gamers in the run up to the launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity might also have hurt their sales at launch, helping Valkyria Chronicles to the top spot.

Unfortunately not. VC was previously a PS3 exclusive. However, Valkyria Chronicles 2 is on Vita, well it was a PSP title and Vita can play PSP games. But the story is nowhere near as good as the original

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 IS SO DARN GOOD. I discovered a whole bunch of these jrpgs. Hours and hours of fun.
I have no Idea why everybody is saying that the Vita is dead. I suppose the Western gamers only care for shooters.

I think Japanese gaming moved with their target market as they grew up unlike the west. I decided to ignore the western reviews as I know how averted they are from sex and more into violence. So I went for it expecting a culture clash. I realise now that there is nothing pervy. Its just Jpop Otaku. I also played Akibas Strip and thanks to that game I understand the Japanese Peter Pan syndrome a little more and never realised that the game is set in Akiba (the Japanes version of Los Vagas. Its tame cheeky fun with fan srvice.
I remember watching Lost in Translation and wondered about that scene when they are walking around Akiba. Everything was noisy Electrinoc Crazy.
Akibas Strip is a hard one to explain. Its fun and the stripping is a new combat system. The frame rate and camera can be a problem but it has its own identity. You strip more men than women anyway. The West are far to sensitive. Its not pervy, its tongue and cheek.
Senran Kagura, Is pervy as hell but also tongue and cheek. The characters are always comparing the size of their boobs like men do with our dicks. This game is more for the teen male going into puberty lol but Its more fun than Street Fighter and Naruto.
Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F is the Japanese version of Guitar Hero and far more enjoyable… but that’s coming from a person who hears music an does not listen to it.
Conception 2 is like Persona 4 but with Otaku fan service. lol You can also make babies man on man. tongue and cheek
All these games are rated teen and are actually rather Inteligent.
Our version of Mature in the west Is acttaly Immature Duke Nukem Style.
These games would not be on the Vita store if it came from the real dark corners of Japanese gaming and there some dark corners over there.

Exactly this! My team leader went to the east and he said that the culture is so vastly different to ours its astounding. Said, they literally don’t care about anything. They’re hard working but they do whatever they want to enjoy themselves. They don’t care about being embarrassed or shy, they’ll do funny poses in public for a photo and he told me that there were like 70 year olds in the train that would be reading manga or playing on their handhelds…
It’s why I’m never shy to proclaim my love for Japanese things even if they are pervy, lol. Its just all in the name of fun. Then I get strange looks for liking Senren Kagura yet those same people are excited at killing their friends in CoD. Japanese games are just about fun at the end of the day which is why I love Nintendo and slowly loving Sony again. And in the end, amidst all these arguments and negativity, as a gamer, all we want to do…is have fun.
By they way, Akiba’s Trip is awesome. And its good you mention…You can strip men too lol

Hear hear. The Japanese introduced us to gaming and anything pop fun. We never even knew about adult cartoons like Akira until the late 90s. I remember the HATE that the West gave FFX-2 with Yuna’s JPOP intro when its was released. I now understand it and LOVE the positive energy in that game.
I envy the Japanese.

Never played that one. Being an off-line gamer on the XBOX 360 finding those under the radar games was a mission. lost odyssey was the only under the radar jrpg that was readily available at retail at the time.

Eternal Sonata. That’s right, I found that in a bargain bin somewhere. That game proved that teaching classical music to children can be fun. What a gem. A pity about the shit poor English voice acting but at least it had a Japanese option.

I eat my words. Us westerners expect more Uncharted AAA games. But considering the size of the screen the Japanese are flooding it with GOOD turn based RPGs.
They did fcuk up when the Vita Marketing team were sprouting all the crap about it being a portable PS4. Its not. They sold it wrong. Still better marketing than the Wii U.

Picked it up on pre-order, the PC port is absolutely perfect especially when using a control. Load’s so much quicker than the ps3.
