Name a genre, and there are numerous games out there to support it. Fancy some good old fashioned fighting with a buddy? Then dip into quality titles such as UFC Undisputed 3, Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter.

Want to blast away enemies from a first-person perspective? Buddy, we’ve got a warehouse full of such games! But one genre that seems to have slowly fizzled out is, is extreme motorcycling, riding through rough terrain and jumping over massive hills.

We’ve seen a few titles in the past, such as MX vs ATV and MotorStorm, but titles such as that are more all around arcade experiences, catering to a wide variety of tastes with numerous vehicles and looser physics.

There just does not seem to be any dedicated Motocross racing game on the market. Or is there?

Featuring an official license from the MX1 and MX2 championships, MUD is a dedicated Motocross racing game that focuses on the sport , as well as the freestyle component that has racers from all across the world competing for fame and glory.

Set across the official MX1, 2 and MXON championships, MUD also has twelve locations with which to rip through the tracks, as well as 32 licensed teams and 84 real world motocross bikers.

So far, it looks quite slick indeed, with the bikes sounding amazing and handling quite well, and while I may not be the biggest fan of developer Black Bean, the team responsible for the WRC games, they do know how to craft a solid title with believable physics and vehicles.

Maybe a slice of Motocross will be the one title that injects some enthusiasm back into me, when MUD launches near the end of April, as there’s nothing I love more on this planet than motorcycles.

Especially when I’m not falling off of them.
