Two games to make you want a PlayStation Vita

TearAway

As a PlayStation Vita early adopter, I’ve been disappointed by the relative lack of stand-out titles for the system, specifically during the post-launch period. There are some great games available, but it seems that Sony and its developers just aren’t really trying hard enough. It’s why I’m looking at Killzone: Mercenaries with hope.

Sony’s released a trailer for the game, which was first confirmed at last year’s Gamescom – and they’ve given the game a release date too. It’ll be coming in September this year – which might be too far away for many Vita owners who’ve been struggling to justify their purchase.

And it looks great. It’s a genuinely impressive title showing how suitable the system really could be for first-person-shooting on the go – hopefully succeeding where godawful games like Resistance : Burning skies and Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified (both developer by Nihilistic) have failed. It’ll ship with a full-length single player campaign as well an expansive online multiplayer.

Check it out.

The other one that’s got me giddy, because although portable console-like experiences are impressive, they’re not what I want from the system is LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule’s Tearaway – a game that really looks to capitalise on the Vita’s unique strengths.

Plus, it’s creative, funny and delightfully charming; exactly what you’d expect from Media Molecule.
