This guy created 25 hours of new Skyrim content as a job application

Falskaar Skyrim

Introducing Falskaar, a massive 25 hour Elder Scrolls: Skyrim mod created by a 19-year-old as his job application to Bethesda.

The mod was released last weekend by Alexander J. Velicky, a boy determined to get a job at Bethesda. Velicky spent over 2 000 hours creating the mod, a project he took on as his full-time job after he graduated high school a little over a year ago.

“I organized everyone involved, but the voice actors themselves recorded all the dialogue and submitted it to me,” Velicky told PC Gamer.

While over 100 people contributed to Falskaar, including composing an original soundtrack, Velicky implemented all the contributions into the mod himself.

“I had some people help me out with a few models and textures, someone wrote a book or two for me… But otherwise all content was implemented, written and developed by me.”

Falskaar features 29 voice actors, 54 characters and comes closer to the quality of the original Skyrim game than any other mod created to date. The mod also adds a brand new massive dungeon called “Watervine Chasm”.

Velicky confirmed that Bethesda is aware of the mod, and is determined to be hired by the studio.

“The best way to show Bethesda Game Studios that I want a job there and should be hired is to create content that meets the standards of their incredible development team.”, he says.

Falskaar is available for download on the Skyrim Nexus and has received phenomenal feedback from the community, with over 41 000 unique downloads. Check out its features below.

Mod description:

Falskaar is a new lands mod that adds an entirely new worldspace to the world. It’s accessed by a dungeon the first time, then by boat from then on out. Falskaar’s goal was to act as a DLC, adding content in almost every area. There is a new land, places, people, quests, dungeons and more for the player to experience. It adds roughly 20+ hours of content, and favours all types of characters.

Mod features:

-An entirely new land independant of Tamriel, roughly the size of 2-3 Skyrim holds.
– 20-30+ hours of gameplay.
– 26 quests, including a 9 quest long main story, and 17 side quests! (Along with some unmarked content)
– New items including new books, recipes, weapons and armor sets. (A mix of brand new, and retextured)
– Two new spells and a new shout.
– A bard with several unique new songs.
– A soundtrack containing 14 brand new tracks composed by Adamm Khuevrr just for Falskaar, adding more than 40 minutes of new music!
– A fully voiced experience, featuring almost 30 semi-professional and professional voice actors and actresses.

If he doesn’t get the job, he’s going to be one depressed fellow.

Some gamers have too much time on their hands. Why doesn’t he go out and get a real job…

Passion, not all of us are satisfied with giving 9+/- hours to the tedium of traditional employment and sometimes the joy of creating is more satisfying than a salary,

He could be the next Mark Cerny/Shigeru Miyamoto.

      • Sageville

….but not quite as satisfying as 3 square meals per day.

Make your love your career and you will be truly happy. He did just that.

    • Gareth L

It was part of his application for a job at Bethesda. Did you read any part of the article at all?

  • Lourens Jordaan

If he managed to get this mod implemented on the PS3…. now that’ll get him a job. lol

  • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

I just got over my addiction darnit!

    Like a Boss!!

and to think I still need to get Skyrim! :(

      *sigh*

You now get to play the GOTY version that is actually the final product after 2 years of making the public BETA test the broken game with countless patches to patch the patches.
      Enjoy

That’s god damn impressive. If this guy doesn’t get hired then screw Bethesda, he’d get hired anywhere with skills like those.

    GIVE HEEM A CHENCE!

  • Estian

I seriously want to play Skyrim again…

Not even Todd Howard got in that easy lol

After playing Wayne Gretzky Hockey 3
he requested a job from a Bethesda office he encountered each day on
his commute from school to home, but was told to finish school then
apply again. After he was done with school he went back to Bethesda and
asked for a job again, but was denied.

  • Rags

Personally I don’t like this approach. While the effort he has put in is impressive, that does not mean he is actually the best candidate for open positions. And now self righteous nut bags will cry and bemoan Bethesda if his application is denied.

  • Tyrone Folset Swart

I would love to hear that he got the job! Well done to him either way

Hats off to this guy, but truth be told, Bethesda doesn’t need more artists, it needs better programmers, show me one Bethesda game that isn’t rotten of all the bugs due to them being lazy ass and doing half assed jobs about the games they create. Skyrim and Oblivion is the best example of this lovely bugged studio. They’re the only game studio that I’ve seen that were capable of making bugs on a scale this size. CTD’s and all sorts of other crap.

    • Cobaas

Yeah skyrim and Oblivion are buggy, with broken quest’s and what-not, but CTD (crash to desktop for anyone who doesn’t know) is nothing to do with Bethesda, that my dear fellow is to do with YOU. Check your load order and use BOSS to set it correctly, look for mod conflicts and use wyre bash to make patches, clean your mods when you download them using tes5edit, and you won’t have any problems with CTD. It was caused by the community not understanding the engine properly when mods were first made but all problems have been sorted now and we have great quality mods like Falskaar, which is without bugs thank Fuck.. haha!

      • http://xelusprime.wix.com/ettiennev Xelus

If it is a problem with modders and gamers that add mods to their game, then explain to me why did they make an Unofficial Patch that fixes more bugs in Skyrim than all the so called patches combined that Bethesda released. Or why there is an Unofficial Patch for Oblivion that fixed 1800+ bugs. 1800! Even with all the above said tools to get mods to work it still happens, you don’t even have to have any mods active to see the games are unstable and CTD. CTD can happen with or without mods. Mostly yes, due to load orders or dirty mods, but if the engine had better resource management it would be more stable in general. I won’t defend Bethesda, they have a history for making bugged games. That said, kudos to the mod maker of Falskaar!
