Witcher 3

Looks like the days of Geralt are numbered. Having fought King-slayers and all manner of monsters through two games already, it looks like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt may be his final adventure. But it’s one that developer CD Projekt RED is hoping will end the series on a high note.

“People may ask if this is really going to be the last Witcher game. Yes, it is,” studio head Adam Badowski said via VG247.

Why? Because we believe that we should end the series on a high note. Technology has progressed to where we can finally tell the story the way we want, with the visuals we want, in the world we imagined. This will be the ultimate fantasy RPG experience, and while we’re hardly out of stories to tell, we believe it’s time for us to look to new worlds and new horizons to keep pushing the boundaries of what we can create.

I’m personally in favour of a story being a complete one in video games. These days, any new title released has to include some dangling loose end as the credits scroll by, as if there is an obligation for a trilogy of games to be made. Right, Uncharted, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Max Payne, God of War, Fable, Fallout…

But before Geralt of Rivia rides off into that sunset, feast your eyes on a new teaser trailer for the threequel, from the latest issue of Game Informer. Or you could read an entire press release on Kotaku. Up to you.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently scheduled for a 2014 release, on PC and other “high end” platforms.
