We haven’t had many video game adaptations of The Walking Dead, but there’s only really one that actually works. Telltale’s point and click adventure is definitely not everyone’s cup of zombie guts, with many of you just wanting to pick up a game and starting mowing down the undead. Well, that game’s being made now.Sure, there was that one shooter a while back, but I think we can all agree that it’s ok to completely forget that it exists. Instead, let’s start looking forward to a new Walking Dead co-op FPS from acclaimed developer Overkill. You know, the guys who make that other really awesome co-op shooter, PayDay 2.
These are guys that know how to create co-operative shooters, which makes me confident that they are the best choice for a new take on The Walking Dead. They’re teaming up with Starbreeze – developers of The Darkness and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons – who will act as publishers of the title.
There aren’t many details yet, other than confirmation that the game will only release n 2016. Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is also on board for the project, which is good news for the creative direction and hopefully the unique narrative that the game will feature.
PayDay 2 is one of the best co-operative shooters out there, so I’m excited to see what Overkill has planned for a Walking Dead adaptation. There will apparently be elements of survival-horror, stealth and role-playing, but that’s about all we know at the moment.
The game is a long way off, so this (creepy) reveal trailer is probably the only thing we’re going to see for a while. Either way, I’m excited to see where this goes.
I am a little snowflake, and you can all call me Sandy until I figure out how to edit this thing, which is probably never. Also, Geoff's a bastard.
