Weird news for a holiday Friday. Tom Clancy who we have all heard of through the Ubisoft army games has now sold the rights to his name to Ubisoft.
Now they can slap his name on anything they want without paying him royalties or getting him to be a part of the design process.
To me this just means that I can no longer be assured that a Tom Clancy game is going to be any good.
The amount of money that has changed hands has not been disclosed but I can only imagine that it must be a hell of a lot to make someone sell there name.

I think you have it all wrong, the fact that Ubisoft have now bought the rights to the “Tom Clancy” name merely secures the name of Tom Clancy exclusively to Ubisoft, i.e. EA/Microsoft/etc. can’t get Tom Clancy to create a game for them with his name stamped on the box… its’ a marketing thing but I doubt it’ll bring any shadow of doom among the franchise.

It’s more than that kold, they can now produce “Tom Clancy – Geriatric wet T-Shirt contest” and we cannot obejct, they have full control over it.
They can even release “Tom Clancy” books without him even proof reading them!

Also, Tomy Clancy looks like the illegitmate love child of Patton Oswald and Drew Carey.
