I know what you’re all going to say and NO it’s not Far Cry 3 okay! 2012 has delivered a great many nerdgasms with its awesome line-up of visually stunning games and not just on PC (looking at you Master Race). The best looking game award goes to…

Far Cry 3

Okay so I lied a little bit! It is Far Cry 3, I wasn’t [all that] convinced, but then I played the game on ultra on my PeeCee and then it dawned on me like a horde of magic unicorns that without a doubt, this was the best looking game this year.

Far Cry 3 is for FPS fans and RPG junkies alike, it’s the perfect mixture of a shooter and a fantastic, immersive, blow-your-face-off storyline and voice acting ever. But that’s beside the point; visually these lush green islands are filled with the most amazing looking nature.

Even the komodo dragons looked hawt. Being able to see into the clear waters from the shore, even though you are staring into the face of a billion razor sharp teeth, i.e. sharks, looking into the distance and knowing that you can reach everything you are able to see, what an experience!

The game’s seamless transition from cinematic to open world gameplay contributes to its visual awesomeness. Developed by Ubisoft with the Dunia Engine 2 (based on the CryEngine) using Havok physics, Far Cry 3 is beyond question the graphics king of 2012.

Honourable mentions:

  • Halo 4
  • Max Payne 3
  • Assassin’s Creed 3
I like bacon and games, and occasionally I say something coherent about it. I'm not old or cynical, and I'm not the Dork Knight. I AM SHE-RA! Wait, what?
