The Force Unleashed: No Multiplayer, No PC version… what’s next? Smoking

What the heck is going on with the new Star Wars title, The Force Unleashed?

When asked by Videogamer.com about the PC versions absence, we got given a really lame excuse that goes something like this:

“The PC being the gaming platform that it is, someone with a $4,000 high-end system would definitely be able to play the Euphoria, the DMM and really technical elements of the game. But someone with a low-end PC would have a watered down experience, they would have to turn all the settings down and it wouldn’t be the same game.”

Yeah, go and tell that to Crytek. Now, we have been told the the game is not going to have multiplayer. When asked about it the PR robot, I mean guy, said “As far as specific reasons are concerned, we don’t really like to get into the reasons why we don’t do things because I don’t think there’s really a satisfactory answer that people would really be happy with. So, there isn’t multiplayer and that’s kind of how it is…”

Well, sorry for asking. How can they remove multiplayer from a game, especially from the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game? Don’t they understand the power of multiplayer these days and how it affects peoples choices when purchasing a game? Anyone whos has ever had a good session of multiplayer in any of the Jedi Knight games will know that they are an absolute blast.

What the hell is going to happen next, no lightsabers? All of this is very disappointing for a game that is showing so much promise.

Microsoft selling second hand consoles as new?

  • http://www.doobiwan.com/ doobiwan

It’s basically now a glorified euphoria tech demo, and even GTA has beaten them to that.

  • Vamp

No Pc? That sux. I must say that this is the first time that I’ve heard a developer complain about Pc specs. Must be one helluva technical materpiece *cough* ahem.
I’ll just wait for Alone in the Dark then.

  • http://www.designwave.co.za Nick

“Hey Bill, this here games aint running too good on this here pc, i think its because it aint handelling the physics good.”

“No Problem Jim, we’ll just cut it from the line-up”

  • umm

    Ever heard of BioShock?

  • http://www.designwave.co.za Nick

I see what you are trying to get at with Bioshock, but this is nt bioshock, its Star Wars. Lightsaber duels are one of the best parts of the games.

And at least Bioshock made it to PC, even if your pc couldnt make the water look nice enough…

  • PaasHaas

Dropping the PC version seems very odd…

However as long it has a very nice single player I dont really see the problem of dropping multiplayer

Maybe they are behind schedule and will release multiplayer as DLC or something? Will probably cost a bit aswell…

  • RossIRSA

Isn’t this game also coming out on the ps2 and the wii?

They couldn’t at least port the ps2 version to pc?

  • http://www.designwave.co.za Nick

Exactly, that just doesnt make sense. They cant say that they cut the PC version out because 5 year old PC’s wont play it properly, that makes not sense.

You set your minimum requirements, and off you go.

  • http://www.doobiwan.com/ doobiwan

The ironic thing is that the Wii version has multiplayer!

  • Naudran

I said it the other day too, this game has dropped from my “must buy” list because of there being no multiplayer…

Next information is would be that you don’t have any Force abilities and that they are changing the title to Star Wars: Unleased

  • ocelot

I personally don’t give a shit about multiplayer, as long as the single player is nailed.

  • shakajumbo

I don’t blame them one bit for avoiding the pc. We all know there are about 30 warez groups just itching to be the ‘l33t cr3w’ to pirate this game. And say what you want about “if it’s good I’ll buy it later” 90% of you never do. Coders cost $$$, Star Wars liscensing cost $$$, and priates nearly never pay

  • Vamp

Well you can use that same argument for chipped Ps2′s and apparently it’s coming out on that?

  • http://www.doobiwan.com/ doobiwan

Because they sell millions of copies regardless, whereas on PC the figures are more like thousands.

  • http://chump-style.blogspot.com/ Jinja

    The wii version rocks…

I’m loving the idea of swinging my lightsaber around.

Jinja’s last blog post..Megan Fox Topless

  • Vamp

Who knows, maybe in 3 years there’ll be a port to
    the Pc ;)

  • JP

    and it will have multiplayer.

  • Smoke

That hardware excuse, is just that, an excuse.

Thats the way it has always been, new games come out, people upgrade to play the new games,..

You mean to tell me that a 5 year computer can’t play top of the line, brand new, high tech games, GET THE FUCK OUT HERE!

Are you serious, zomg!, I don’t believe it.. /Sarcasm

Duh, of course old hardware can’t play new games maxed out, this is why we upgrade, this is why hardware companies make new hardware, this is how technology progresses, and the PC game market has worked since, well, since it began, thanks for the news flash, you fucktards..

Why push the hardware envelope then act surprised when some hardware can’t run it?

Its ridiculous, did you see Crytek freaking out over Crysis, like, “Oh no! What about the people with 3DFX Voodoo cards, or some shit, they won’t be able to play it!!!”.. (lol) :D

No, of course not, they knew what the game would require, they stamped it on the damn box, and shipped it..

Btw, does anyone remember George saying this is the next big Star Wars event, yeah, me too, well fuck you too George, thanks for leaving out probably the nerdiest, biggest demographic of Star Wars fans their is, that would be the PC market..

Lets make it like an episode of the Family Feud..

Name a place you are likely to see a Star Wars nerd?

#1 Answer- Sitting at a computer.

Yes, sitting at a computer George,..

Good boy, now go make them some games before they get disgruntled and DDOS your ass of the internet, and spam your mail servers with porn links, and penis enhancement ads and shit..
    :D

    Peace

  • Smoke

    Typo Corrections..

You mean to tell me that a 5 year *old* computer

this is how technology progresses, and *how* the PC game market has worked since, well, since it began, thanks for the news flash, you fucktards..

  • Milesh Bhana

This article begs an interesting question. This generation of consoles has seen many PC die hard gamers make the switch to consoles. Particularly PS3/360. HD screens has levelled the playing field somewhat. PC gamers have grown tired of the constant upgrade cycle. THe fact that everything is so damn expensive doesn’t help.

So when they release a multiplatform title, how many units do they actually move on the PC these days? Is it enough for it to be a profitable venture? If not, why bother. Gaming is a business. Sure, the latest expansion of the Sims will sell bucketloads, but how many copies of UT3 (PC version) or Crysis for that matter were sold ?

  • http://www.doobiwan.com doobiwan

Easy, because they don’t have to.

Games make more money on consoles, and are easier to develop on console. Not to say there isn’t money in PC games, just that there isn’t enough money in exclusive Pc games anymore.

They can turn a profit on PC by releasing on console and porting to PC, so I’m afraid that’s the way they’ll do it.

  • http://gamerza.blogspot.com/ doobiwan

Just a complete rumour I read someone, chalk it up to a fanboy, but worth a though. Apparently SFU 360 will have multiplayer, but is unannounced as yet because it uses the Newton motion controller, which likewise hasn’t been announced.

As I said, it sounds pretty dodgy, but worth a moments thought.

doobiwan’s last blog post..The Games that made the consoles

  • Anakin Skywalker

i agree with doobiwan.Hey they might try to surprise us with a mutiplayer for the game. And if that doesn’t seem likey then how does it not being for the pc seem likey. They are also prob. going to make if for the pc later. Thats what they do with their games usally.

  • LazySAGamer

Nice rumour, this would make sense since the Wii has multi-player and if the 360 has the same controller there is no reason not to port that over…
