Tell us what YOU think of Destiny

Right, Destiny is out – which means many of you have been playing the game since yesterday. Very many of you are likely further than the point you got to in the beta. that means that not only have you gone to the Moon, but you’ve probably hit Venus and beyond.

I’m enjoying my time with it. For now, I’m trying to do as much of the campaign (largely solo) before I start entering in to group activities, but I’ve engaged in a fair bit of insanity with public events and one strike mission with my fuzzy friend, Garth.

I’ll be honest; it’s fun… but there’s definitely an element of repetition in the campaign mission structure.  Right now, far too many missions seem to be me guarding my Ghost while it gets info from some computer and swarms of enemies descend on the place. I’m definitely going to have to put in many more hours before I’m able to accurately review it. It certainly picks up a lot when you’re playing it with friends as opposed to going it alone.

User reviews at the moment – on sites like Metacritic – aren’t too favourable, with many saying the game’s boring, decrying its missions and the fact that it plays much like an MMO. The current user score for the Xbox One version is 4.8, with 5.1 for the PS4; it’s filled with this sort of thing.

Those of you who’ve been playing; what do you think of Destiny? Is it the best thing since sliced bread, or is it just another over-marketed, overhyped game?

I’m enjoying the game and I’ll be playing it for a long time. Best part is teaming up with mates and rampaging missions or hitting up the pvp. It’s a great social fun game to play.

you and me both dude. after you helped me with some strikes and leveling up in the beta I was hooked. I am probably behind on my leveling (7 right now) but if you are up for a raid and a couple of strike missions again let me know!

I’m way behind. Got mates on lvl 16 last night and I’m on 4. Managed to get 2 hours in before I had to jump off. So I’m hoping to really get further tonight and this weekend. Definitely need to try organize some game time together again

A brainless FPS game with no narrative or skill required for the ADD candy crush generation that love paying for added extra episodic content at full retail so they can brag about their extra skills at school.

    Yawn… ZZZZZZzzzzzzzz

Expect this Hype Train to fizzle away after a month like the Titan Fail and Watch Dog snore fest.

At least Borderlands had Humour and loot drops.

But low and behold, Musica at Canal Walk know their shit and had multiple copies on the shelf 🙂 Even the dude behind the till got on his knee when he handed the game over to me and said it was the best gaming experience he has ever had lol.

        Different strokes for different folks.
Good for you. As long as you are having fun then thats all that matters.
But I can see a mob of old school gamers like myself who grew up and learnt how to enjoy gaming by ourselves. Off line gaming that needed strong narrative and FREE reward systems, that are defensive against this new work model because if it becomes a success then we can kiss what we know good buy.

In my opinion this game is like that Youtube hit FRIDAY, Memes memes memes in place of quality. New age brainwashing.

You young people of today don’t know what real gaming is. Back in my day we used to sit on the ground in front of a black & white TV that weighed more than a Beetle & our controllers only had 2 buttons & we had to make our own sound effects because the game only had American sound effects that were dubbed out.

Also, there is loot drops… Stop acting as though you’re a professional games creator and you think you know what people like. Your example of why Destiny was bad is pretty much like me saying ‘ Call of duty is rubbish – at least on crash bandicoot there are enough boxes. ‘ two totally different games bitch.

It must be awkward for a gaming site with Destiny backgrounds and banners all over the show to give Destiny a 6 or 7 out of 10.

To me it looks like the same shit over and over again. Land on planet, kill the same types of enemies on every planet, let your ghost talk rubbish, let the ghost look at something while you shoot at the same type of enemies on every planet.
It looks like you just repeat the same damn thing over and over. But some people just like shooting the same stuff over and over.

Not a huge stress. Typically port forwarding, but the trick is it seems to me that each router calls it something different.

im going to get it soon and im hoping its not as bad as what people are making out. if they built it like an MMO then it explains the bland story. when i played FFXIV the story wasnt very good either, but the game picked up a bit at end game(then got boring fast tbh). im hoping its the same deal here, get to end game then start having fun.

Best game ever, enjoy every moment. There is just something and when it bites you, you are hook. Love playing it on the big screen with the amazing sound. Also a good social game. The game just work people tend to forget it is the only game in many, many moons that did not crash the servers on day one, well done Bungie.
It is better than Halo. What is irritating is the fact that this game is Data hungry, use about 200mb per hour. It is definitely better with a friend and I think a good way to introduce people to multiplayer concepts.

Eish dude to me it sounds that you are grumpy because the rest of the world is enjoying it and you are not part of it. I do believe that you can’t have an opinion on any game if you did not at least played it.
Just because the game has elements that you might not enjoy is no reason to dish the game. I actually don’t play multiplayer much but enjoy it in this game there is a nice transition between multiplayer and single player that is enjoyable. Also Experience gained is shared between multi and single player campaigns.
This game definitely has elements that is unique and has not been tested or tried before. It is not the same old same old multiplayer type game

Not grumpy at all but from what I have heard is that the game is not that good and very repetitive. I am not judging but you saying it is the best game ever is a bit of a stretch for me this early on. Also while The Last of Us may not have re-playability it is still voted as the best game in the last few years.

So to iterate what I have said.
Don’t really care about Destiny but it will be a long while before I believe anyone saying it is the best game ever.

And I was really hoping the story to be a bit deeper. Not sure if it gets better, but at the moment its just view the map and do a quest. No dialogue or background…

I bought a new router that could put an IP in DMZ, and that fixed it very quickly. You log into your router through your PC or phone and do the port forwarding there or if your router can just put your PS4 in DMZ and you should get Type 2….

Seeing as I have been the one who has told the whole world that Destiny is THAT good and it will be huge I guess it is up to me to clarify some things…..
Firstly I have noticed that over the last 2 months or so that more and more random haters have emerged!! As with all things in life, if it is good and maybe too good you will find people who hates it because it is THAT good… Or it is people who need to go buy a f*&#$ng dog to get attention and not look for it on the net!! I saw the same thing happen last night with Apple, their products aren’t as shit as people on the net would like you to believe!! I own a few apple products, and the way they work together is just bloody awesome!! So hate it if you want, but it wouldn’t sell so well if it didn’t work not even with all the hype in the world!!
Back to Destiny. Of course there will be people who don’t like it, there are a lot of things out there that people like that I think is complete and utter crap!! But that is the good thing about opinions, everyone has one and it won’t always fit with yours but so be it… It is a good thing we differ, otherwise life would be boring!!
Secondly the game is bloody masterpiece in every sense of the word!! The gameplay is solid, the graphics is very good if not great!! And what is this about repetitiveness? So you had to scan shit with your ghost and protect it more than 2 times… WOW, please no not that!!! Come on, so what!! All games have repetitive missions… ALL of them!!! You will be done with the story mission in a week or two’s time and then you will come back to shoot people in the face in the PvP!! If you don’t play at least 50 hours on this then you bought the wrong game, and if you bought this game and stopped playing after 50 hours it will still be 35 hours more than most single player games you played over the last few years!!
The game is great, but only if you want to play online with yourself, your friends or random people!! This is an online game, it says so on the package!!
Also I hate people, people are idiots and it makes me sad!!
    Jonah out…………………………

Yeah, while I may not put that amount of time into games, I get the possibility of being able to do that, if I prioritise it right. I would get bored doing the same thing for an extended period like that, but I get it. I spend a lot of time on games and books, by myself. While still spending quality time with wife and kid. I sleep a lot less than they do, plain and simple.

It is nuts. experienced no lag and there are so many people playing! the world feels alive and after a days work there was nothing better than finally going home, cracking open a beer, making a roasted chicken mayo and pesto sarmie, slap on my Gold headset, remove pants (bec no epic journey should ever be handled with pants) and get lost in the world of Destiny.

    Enter Titanfall 2.0.

The Hype Train is really taking a beating this year, what with Watch Dogs, Titanfall, and now Destiny all showing up at the station being duds. It’s interesting, but it is happening because these games are screaming how next gen they are while being made for 360 and PS3, too. Hell, in Titanfall’s case, the 360 version had virtually no differences.

What we need is a game truly built from the ground up for next gen without concern for the limitations of the ancient 360 or PS3. Looks like we might need either Assassin’s Creed Unity or Batman Arkham Knight to do that for us. Unfortunately, AK is more than six months away.

Hm. Titanfall had that easy, “Titanfail” name to describe the disappointment and dismay. What will Destiny’s “fail” name be, though? Dudstiny? Dullstiny? Failstiny? Dustiny? Hm.

    Only history can decide.

I am so confused to why there is bad reviews of this game!? It’s absolutely brilliant, it’s call of duty speed first person shooting with Halo scenery, fun exciting alien waves, missions, bosses & random adventures you can create yourself. MMORPG which changes to third person back at the tower and you can interact with online players. You choose a planet, fly there – Roam the planet, find and collect rare materials – upgrade armour become strong – PVP and complete missions with friends or random people you see online. If you seriously think this game is bad then your clearly not happy with anything in life – enjoy it fools.

If ur a bungie halo fan I’m sorry this game is not for you. Bungie has ruinedbits reputation with this game. The campain is alright but only 3 members at a time and hard to find a team if u have no friends O and worst of all the copied moves from other games but made them crappy. The cotomizations for how ur player look is bad theres not very many options. The armor Japanese style just like Hao 4 really fun looking.

Now about the matchmaking I’m really disappointed with Bungie for this. After how bad Halo 4 was, I know that wasnt bungie I was so looking forward to a great matchmaking, but what did bungie do they made it Cod style wtf Bungie how stupid can u guys be. Just a terrible terrible matchmaking.

And my final thoughts on the game NO FORGE their you go.

Destiny is ok, but its like Borderlands with all the fun sucked out of it… Firstly… yes, apparently there is a lot of loot to be had in Destiny with a lot of customizations… and admittedly I’m only lvl 10 right now… but I don’t seem to come across lots of loot that often… only some loot chests once in a while and it seems all items are bought, but you get currency rarely so pretty much you’re stuck with the same gear for a while… Even when you get more gear, its usually just a lvl increase from the same thing you just had… meh… Borderlands is a loot-topia… If you don’t like you’re gun, pick up another one and keep going… you can go through lots of combinations of guns and armor and gear just in a single firefight… its awesome… Also the destiny skill tree seems to spoon feed you, its not like Borderlands were you can build out different classes within the same tree… also, can you reset and try different skills? Anyway.. in Destiny the skill tree seems to be just a simple reward for reaching the next level. In Borderlands the skill tree is almost like a fingerprint. It lets you decide how you want to fight and everyone seems to have their own little tweaks to the skill tree, so its not a one size fits all… Lastly… the look and feel of Destiny is very generic, very vanilla . The look of Pandora was diverse, and there was some character to it… It was almost a character in the game itself… And don’t get me started on the characters in Borderlands, Moxxi, Jack… Butt-stallion… As far as I know there is no “face” to destiny unless you count that pale version of a clap-trap they call Peter Dinklage… err Ghost… and wtf is up with dead ghosts? To sum it up… The multi-player is seems very Halo, the scenery seems very Halo, the gameplay seems very Halo… but you’ll be able to add a mod to your guns once in a while, just try to stay awake until that happens.

Words out of there mouth ” GAME STARTS AT 20″ was a deliberate lie. It was in fact there tricky way of hiding its greatest flaw. Ty Xbox , Bungie and other affiliated comanys, i no longer am bound to buy ur crap , overhyped games, bc what little hope i had for the truth to be said and a equal exchange of goods and currency to take place has been abolished. Enjoy ur throne of lies ,and the cash money u have duped players and good ppl out of. Greed consumes and destroys everything. Dont fall pray for them with this game.

Okay, honest review (coming from a level 22)…

    The good:

-Decent battle systems. Some of the main boss battles are insane (especially when you start doing the higher level strikes).
    – It looks pretty.
    – That’s it.

    The bad:

    – Completely broken class system. No real difference between the classes minus a special attack and a few extras. Literally nothing else separates them.
    – Completely repetitive game play.
    – A generic, if not laughable, town in which you claim/buy/transact everything.
    – All three planets (and moon) are pretty much nothing but barren wastelands with little or no reason to explore. I mean that, no reason: yes, there are chests, that give you a small amount of money and maybe a worthless loot item.

    The Ugly:

    – Complete and utter lack of any useful loot. Also, there is no loot above level 18, except for legendary. Anyone who calls this game a loot game really, truly doesn’t know what that is. Borderlands? Loot. Diablo? Loot. This? Pathetic, at best. What’s worse? If you replay the missions, you get loot when the mission ends. If you select a higher difficulty (like 20, in my case) you get jack when it ends. I mean no loot rolls at all (or at least I have never gotten one). Add that on to the fact that most people (like my friends) get stuck on the two item drift: where you end a level with 5 helmets (that you got from enemies)and nothing else. Seriously, why would I spend 45 minutes killing a huge boss for absolutely nothing?
    – Factions that are so time consuming and boring, for very very very little reward, that it literally takes you weeks just to get one piece of equipment. It’s completely stupid that you can’t even see how high you are in a faction without actually talking to a faction member (seriously, they couldn’t have added this in the pause menu?). A cap of 100 faction points a day, plus it takes thousands of recognition points to level up, yet hit 3rd level to actually buy anything. Anyone who said “the end game is where it’s at” is delusional. There is no end game except constantly grinding the same 3 or 4 strikes in hopes of actually getting a single piece of equipment, while hopefully getting one piece of faction equipment every three days. Unfortunately, you probably won’t.
    – Remember before when I said barren wasteland? I meant that not only as the low amount of enemies and things to encounter, but also that there are maybe one or two people in the world with you, even in patrol. The most I have ever seen is 10 during an instance. That’s it. Well, in town, maybe 10 at a time, too, which doesn’t matter because you can’t talk to anyone. The lack of communication available between the players is pathetic.
    – The story is literally forgettable, but not as forgettable as the NPCs. Completely lifeless.

Well, that’s it. Like it or not, this game has some HUGE flaws. Even though I don’t think Bungie or Activision specifically said this was a MMO or RPG, but it is neither. This is a lackluster FPS with barely anything to hold on to after 20 or so hours of play.

Yep I agree with most if not all of that.
Barren, boring and a grind. My mate won’t shut up about it. By the time he has some “really cool” gear, the rest of us will be over this game and onto something else – 10 year plan? What a joke.
It’s just too grindy for what you get, but without a reward I can’t see how the game can last.
People are comparing this to Halo FireFight but I disagree. I used to play that on my own and with mates simply because it was fun – not to get anything. Destiny is just not like that I reckon.
It doesn’t worry me though because there are plenty of games to come when this one just dies – except for my mate and all the other dudes that just like mindless rinse and repeat on boring activities.
I need it to be fun. Without rewards, this game is not fun.

Not so great, very bland and liner story, with the usual get mission, go here, kill/fend off these, done. The gear alone is not worth having as a defence stat seems to be just a number, and weapons don’t seem to be any more significant from the last. Played for a number of hours now and I will admit the first few hours were fun, now after covering the ghost for the 6th time in a row fending off Fallen, I’m starting to think Bungie stepped out of there comfort zone, and fell hard on this one. Have played worse, but this does come close, considering $99.95 au, pretty disappointing game.

I don’t know if their doing this for a reason or what but from what I can tell the entire campaign mode is all about ranking up to play online modes, super bland. But it’s fun I can say I’ve played the hell out of it ,Co-op games are my favorite so I’m having fun. I just think they coulda done so much more with the story it’s like a 5 year old wrote it.

I was about 4 hours into Destiny when I started to feel guilty. Maybe its just me? Maybe I’m slowly getting over games? Am I being to harsh on it? those are a few of the questions I kept asking myself while playing. I feel a lot better seeing other gamers are sharing the same feelings about Destiny. Over-hyped and over-marketed is an understatement when it comes to Destiny, of course these two publishers could make toilet paper look epic and unbelievable. Even more so when you hear how much the budget was. There marketing team certainly knows how to grab your attention. At the point of writing this I am not enjoying Destiny. As Geoffrey mentioned above, the repetition is very disappointing. I also feel that I’m spending my campaign looking after my ghost doing what he does while I fight off insane hordes of enemy’s. The AI are very predictable. They pop in and out of the same cover asking for a round to the head and stay at the perfect distance to not over whelm you. Unless you are baby sitting your ghost, I find the enemy never really come for you. These so called “open worlds to explore” feel incredibly empty, I have spent hours looking around these maps and feel like there is no point to it. I did expect there to be hidden caves or alien ruins with great weapons and armor to fight for. Even one Npc to give me a side quest or story would of been interesting? And as for the multiplayer element and the social environment they promised I really feel let down. Unless you have a couple of friends online at the same time you spend must of the game by yourself. And patience help you if those friends are at a higher level then you, that’s when it gets really sad, as you have put two clips in to your first enemy to take him down and your friend has killed the boss and the rest with a few shots. I could go on forever but there is a point where I need to stop. It’s not a bad game, but I can’t stop feeling guilty about the cash I could of saved for something else instead of buying Destiny. Even though I’m about to play it once I stop here.

you can’t play it without connecting to some place away from home?..too
many users?….”the airplane seats have just been over sold”….its not
you….the database manager for Bungie can’t be too different from any
other database manager….too many users?…..just block or kick users
off…..until you get enough capacity that is to entertain all…Brand
    new?…create a program…recognizes the new folks….wouldn’t want to upset a
brand, brand new customer….play a little awhile….then, block or kick
off old users until you get capacity. Old user? …2, 3 hours…maybe a day
if your lucky of game play…then , blocked or get kicked off. To be or
not to be….patience or refund? That is the question…..HHHhhhhhhmmmm?????
All this….I have to fix my computer, my server, my internet service to
run a game???? Really??? Are you kidding????? And you bought a $60 game
disc from the local store…or worse…you bought the game
online….waited…oh an hour or so…after passing out your credit card
billing information….for the game to download…..but…can’t play the game
because of someone in outer space? Again, to be or not to be….patience
