Today marks the beginning of the inaugural Xbox Call of Duty Championships in Hollywood. It also marks the day that our very own Darryn aka Brenda/Batman gets to do some real eSports coverage. May the force be with you Dork Knight! Oh wait… it won’t be because LucasArts died! And with it, a little bit of every gamer on the planet’s soul.
Back to Call of Duty though – Team XtaZ, a local team taking to the international battlegrounds in Black Ops 2, will face off against the world’s elite in the first round of the Call of Duty Championships. Day 1 will see 16 teams progress to round 2 after a round robin stage. The 32 teams have been divided into groups of four (eight groups), each team will play the other three teams in their group once. After this stage, the top two teams of each group will progress to a double-elimination stage tomorrow.
All the action starts tonight at 21:00 SAST (12:00 PDT), according to the official Call of Duty eSports website supporters will be able to watch group play matches on up to five different streams. So keep an eye on this page if you’d like to spectate some games.
