Super Mario 64 120 Star speedrun record broken

Mario64

When I first played Super Mario 64, the game blew my mind. It had a full, enchanting 3d world for the plumber to explore. It was also one of the first game I ever played that had analogue control, so my first hour or so was spend running around in a damned circle. Finishing that game though, took months; it took ages to find, and then grab every one of the 120 stars available to collect. This guy’s done it in about the time it takes to watch a movie.

Serial Super Mario 64 Speedrunner SigleMic has gone and broken his own record, by beating Super Mario 64 – and collecting every single star – in one hour, 43 minutes and 54 seconds. and that’s without any tool assists. Plus, it was done on the N64 as opposed to Virtual console or emulation which usually results in a higher time.

He says he’s spent over 5000 hours playing this one single game, and it shows. He also uses the Japanese version…because its shorter intro shaves an entire 2.7 seconds off the game. Madness. anyway, if you have the time, check it out.

If you don’t have that kind of time, watch this even more impressive one-handed speedrun of the game, with the game completed in 22 minutes. With one hand.

Speedrunners are a sort of gamer I’ll never comprehend; I couldn’t imagine playing the same game over and over again trying to shave time off of each run. Plus they make me feel terribly inadequate.

After watching the Dark Souls speed run I still feel like a baby seal during slipper season when comparing skills and the guy who holds the record is holding a big ass club.

I recently started getting into speedruns. Probably spent the last 3 weeks of my life watching most of them. Simply amazing. I love it. I will never do it because its way too much effort, but amazing none the less.

It takes longer to install the $40 game than finish it.

Yup and some people are still defending this game, no wait I meant Demo. For $40 I can have a better time anywhere in town for a longer period than playing this game. Be it playing golf(poorly) or getting black out drunk at the pub or waxing every hair below my beard. That would still be a better time.

As a fellow speedrunner, I commend his efforts. Nothing but constant refinement and practice.

I remember playing this game with my niece in Germany back in 2000. Was a seriously fun game and one of the shiny lights in Nintendos crown, if you ask me.

Oh man, I loved this game so much back in the old days. I played recently on emulator and still enjoyed it, but was a lot smaller than i remembered, I used to get lost haha.
    But this guy is crazy…
