Remember is an intriguing game so far, as the Gamescom reveal showed off a third-person action game with some fascinating elements to it, regarding the use of weaponised memories. Of course, you can’t build an entire game on that novel idea, as you need some other core mechanics to keep things familiar and safe. Which is where hand to hand fighting comes in, and seeing as how Capcom is involved with the game, they’ve decided to send the master pound cake deliverer himself, Yoshinori Ono, to lend a guiding fist to the project.
Talking to Eurogamer, Capcom Senior Producer Mat Hart revealed that Ono had been become involved with the Dontnod Studio debut game, giving regular advice on how to fine-tune certain sections of it.
“He’s my boss and he and I speak very regularly about the game, and he’s come out with me to Paris. He knows the team and knows the game very well. I always benefit from his wisdom when I’m chatting to him about how we’re progressing”, Hart said.
It’s a bit like the situation Capcom has with Ninja Theory. The strategy of western development is building teams together – Capcom and a developer coming together and making a game together – as opposed to quite an old-fashioned approach of being adversarial. We’re moving away from that.
When we saw the game way back last year, we instantly knew this had the DNA to support the Capcom brand and be a really strong part of our portfolio. This is going to be a major franchise for us.
It may still be early days right now, but Capcom could have something on their hands right now that starts a whole new franchise for them. Remember is certainly an intriguing title so far, and with Ono sharing his vast wisdom, it could be a killer in the gameplay department when it releases next year in May.
