Stand your Xbox One vertically “at your own risk”

The flower's just like Darryn too

The Xbox 360, like Darryn, is designed to go both ways. You can rest the console horizontally like a set top box, or stand the thing vertically if you’re the sort that likes their entertainment units upright. Like Darryn. The Xbox One though, will not support vertical orientation.

"We don’t support vertical orientation; do it at your own risk," senior director of product management and planning for Xbox Panello told Gamespot. "It wouldn’t be a cooling problem, we just didn’t design the drive for vertical. Because it’s a slot loading drive, we just didn’t design it for both."

"We found, interestingly enough," he added, "that 80 percent of people, believe it or not, have their Xbox [360] horizontally."

I’m okay with that, actually. The Xbox One looks like a set-top unit that belongs in a home entertainment system, and those generally look better when they’re horizontal. It is bizarre though; Penello blames the slot-loader for the vertical issues; yet the Wii, Wii U, Ps3 and Ps4 all have slot loaders and work vertically just fine.

Still, I have no intention of having my consoles vertical, so it doesn’t bug me in the slightest. What of you? do you stand your consoles up, or leave them lying?

Lets watch as the PS4 stands proud before it’s lesser competitor…. Proudly going where no Xbox has ever gone before standing up and walking away with my money.

My console has spent her 7 years lying, ready for me. I just whack it in, press that button and lose myself for a few seconds. Wait, we are talking about a ‘console’ right?

I had a few hours ago at first, then changed it to a few minutes, then though, come now, the people of LG are all friends so changed it to seconds. I fear that assumption part about friends may have been a few degrees off the mark…

Suffering from pre-excitement jitters I see. But I also like it when my console is turned on and ready to be played in a few seconds.

Dammit! This sucks. I want to be able to save 10cm of space! And I want to be a hipster and be that 20%. I’m putting my PC on its side tonight. This is something that really makes a difference to my life.

I like my PC nice and big, standing upright. It performs bestest with two big cards inside.

LOL!! at 1st line. Back on subject, I’m pretty sure the XBone won’t have any problems standing vertically, I mean it seems to me that MS have done extensive tests on everything XBox1.. EVERYTHING! They now telling me that they never tested their BD drive running at angles varying from 0 degrees? Doubt it.

Seems legit, if there’s a strong wind, the door would swing into it too hard and possibly tip it over, maybe even damage the wood floor. Far better to have it laying down, it probably has those grippy rubber legs on the bottom which will grip floors better, and help brace the door from strong winds.
