South Korea to host League of Legends World Championships

For the last two years, the League of Legends Worth Championships have taken place in Los Angeles. The Staples Center sold out in record time for Season 3, and I sorta assumed that LA was the new home of the LoL championships. But, I was wrong.

Riot has announced that in 2014, the World Championship will be held in South Korea. No specific city is mentioned, though. So are we just going to assume that it will be in Seoul? Wherever it is exactly, I will happily take this as an opportunity to travel to South Korea, if I’m invited.

League of Legends is growing in popularity all over the world. It is one of the largest and most popular eSports in the States, and is gaining momentum in South Africa. I know plenty of people who have returned to LoL after being frustrated with the local Dota 2 community. I find it interesting that Riot has decided to bring their championship to Korea. Is it because of the superiority of Korean players? Perhaps because a Korean team won Season 3. It would be really interesting if they took a Eurovision Song Competition approach to the World Championships and moved to wherever the previous winning team originated.

That said, Korea is often seen as the birthplace of eSports. It seems fitting that a country that airs eSports on mainstream TV would get to enjoy the benefits of hosting this massive tournament. Still, I like the idea of a traveling World Championship, one that could one day come to South Africa.

Can someone explain to me, (in terms of percentage), how much bile is there in LoL community versus DotA community?

So far the worst I’ve gotten from DotA, is a single ” .|. ” from a player last night. We kicked their asses pretty bad. everyone was all like “gg” and then that. Made us lol so much.

And also, the experience in DotA locally so far has been very pleasant. Everyone’s patient and friendly. But, I don’t have 500 hours logged. Still, so far, not one problem.

Generally you can sort of sense when you are playing with a bunch of SAfricans everyone is well mannered. But dang those Russians. Them bitches be crazy yo.

Problem is it seems that no more South Africans are being allowed to play. My friend has been no 6784 in the que for a couple of months now. Anyone had a similar experience?

The ever resounding P03$ says I agree, but generally I don’t play unless I have 2 or 3 friends in my team. As you say Teamies are way worse than the other side. And it only takes one idiot to ruin an entire game

No new servers yet, so they aren’t allowing more people in. There is (apparently) more work going into getting access to more local servers. This will allow new players in.

Or you could just make a new US Steam Account and play immediately. I’ve been told this works.

Most of the insults you’ll find in dota will be from your own team.
the biggest insult you can get from the other team is silence, you know they mad when they dont say a thing.

To be fair.. you have only got approx. four games logged. Generally with already vetted well mannered people. 😀

Although the zap was pretty lol worthy. 😀

Don’t. Even. Agree. Although I understand where you come from with this statement. Unfortunately you’re usually paired up with people who have been playing for a long time. I’m still being paired up who keep calling my dead mother all sorts of lovely (and pretty thoughtful) names. It’s always going to be perspective, but there is a reason the community has such a bad name. And it isn’t because they are such nice pandas. They’re not. Just like EA isn’t the best company in the the US. It may not REALLY be the worst. But they’re still particularly shit.

two sides of the same coin tbh, just under 1000 games and i can say that the dota community is as good as it is bad.
the good side just isnt highlighted the same way as the bad is.
dota is extremely competative and personal.

The field I work in is competitive and personal. No one has ever called my mother anything remotely resembling what I’ve heard during a DotA match. I try to give out commends as often as I can. But I always have some left over. Never have enough reports though for abusive communication.

I find the LoL to be more tolerant of noobs than my dota experience, friendly people in most games. But there will always be trolls and the little children that the trolls feed on.
