PS4launch

I have a pre-order going for a PlayStation 4 because yes, we have to buy our hardware. I learned this the hard way.  I have to admit though, that the launch titles aren’t exactly spectacular. In the same Q&A post that spawned the PS4 information burst earlier, Sony’s confirmed the system’s launch titles. Here’s what you’ll be able to play on your shiny new PS4.

The list, says Sony, is subject to change – and doesn’t include free-to-play games like Blacklight Retribution or Marvel vs DC Universe Online

Sony first-party titles:

  • Flower
  • Killzone: Shadow Fall
  • Knack
  • Resogun
  • Sound Shapes
  • Escape Plan
  • Flow

Third-party titles:

  • Angry Birds Star Wars – Activision
  • Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag – Ubisoft
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts – Activison
  • FIFA 14 – EA Sports
  • Battlefield 4 – Electronic Arts
  • Just Dance 2014 – Ubisoft
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
  • LEGO MARVEL Super Heroes – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
  • Madden NFL 25 – EA Sports
  • NBA 2K – 2K Sports

Indie games:

  • Contrast – Compulsion Games
  • Pinball Arcade – FarSight Studios

That honestly has to be one of the most lacklustre launch libraries I’ve ever seen – though the Xbox One’s launch library isn’t much better. I am stupidly excited for Resogun and a shiner version of Flower though.

Any of those you find particularly exciting? I’m gonna grab Killzone, and probably Assassin’s Creed IV – but the absence of Watch Dogs and Driveclub really does take the bite out of the line-up.

The next gen though – it’s nearly here.

I’m only getting one or two titles at launch anyway, so AC4 and BF4 would keep me busy for a couple of months. I’ll get watch dogs and Driveclub when they are launched and build up my library gradually.

The wife finally caved and said I can get 1 of the 2 systems at launch. Because it is possible to import the Xbone, I just don’t know anymore which system to get.

It is always said to go with your first gut choice, which for me was PS4…But that launch line-up kills me! Only Killzone looks good to me.

Killzone and BF4 will keep me entertained during the dry launch window, also PS3 backlog is huge…. So depressingly and anxiety-inducing huge… :/

I’ve been working really hard on my backlog and now got it down to like 3 games.. yay me. There are still a few previous gen games that I will be playing in the future, but at least that’s my currently owned games sorted then. Also got KZ and BF4 lined up for PS4 to keep me busy for the first few months. Actually quite excited for the freebies as well.. Contrast and Resogun look superb.

I need to do that, I’m going to try to get the backlog down to about 3 games as well. I think November and December are going to be Backlog Gaming Months!

The key word there being “launch”. There are more than enough 3rd party games to keep you entertained until Infamous, Deep Down and The Order comes along. Also, R 1000 cheaper! And Sony are famous for the exclusives!

Go PS4, there are a lot of worrying rumours about the stability of the Bone’s OS (and the Cloud itself). Also, 1080p > 720p any day!

I’m getting Killzone in PS4 bundle, I’ll upgrade my PS3 version of BF4 to PS4.

Then I’m waiting for Destiny and The Division.

That’s basically my plan as well. I might get AC4 rather than Killzone though. And I forgot about The Division. I’d get Killzone and Watch dogs when they get their first price cut.

I think its safe to say that noone will be buying more than two titles after shelling out R6300 for the console. Most people seem to want to hang onto their PS3s for a little while so they can wrap up the games they haven’t finished anyways.

Assassins Creed IV, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Battlefield 4, Fifa 14, COD: Ghosts and Knack (yeah, I actually want it) – I’ll say that there are more than enough awesome games to keep you occupied for 2 months.

Who here actually buys more than 4 AAA new games in 2 months?

Then there’s also the constant worry that launch hardware may be more prone to failure, while I’d say that would be more true for the Bone, you can never ignore the possibility that that may be true for the PS4 either.

First generation is always a lucky packet. Third generation’s usually where the sweet spot lies (although it took the xbox 360, 5 generations to deal with the RROD issue – but that’s just because Microsoft sucks and where in denial for the first three).

On a totally different note, I’ve finally came around to start playing Saints Row The Third last night. Only started and I’m still randomly throwing grenades while getting used to the buttons but I’m enjoying the over the top silliness of it all. (And now for a bit of relevance) With so many PS3 games out there for me to enjoy the PS4 haven’t even entered into my thoughts.
