Somebody’s digging up those E.T carts

PE

One of videogaming’s most enduring myths is the story of the hole in New Mexico that Atari supposedly filled up with millions of unsold copies of the Atari 2600 flop, E.T. some are convinced that it really happened, with others saying it’s little more than urban legend. Soon, we’ll be able to find out if it’s true or not.

It’s now thirty years since that infamous video game crash – and a documentary has received approval to dig up the reported burial site in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Sometime within the next six months, they’ll be digging the place up – and we’ll finally get to see what Atari buried out there. While tons of copies of the unsellable E.T are a likely candidate, it’s reported to also contain a number of copies of Pac-Man, as well as hardware – including Atari’s unreleased Mindlink; a controller that would have you playing games using your mind. (Ok, it was really just small muscle movements in your head)

For it’s part, Atari has always denied that anything was buried in New Mexico. I guess we’ll found out.

That will be brilliant if they do find games there. It’s such a big legend with the “older” gamers.

This article, while interesting and makes me very curious as to what they will find, does not even compare to the awesomeness that is this pictawr:
