Today’s the day Nintendo fans the world over have been waiting for, the day the Nintendo 3DS launches.

Locally we are getting the 3DS for a solid price of R2699 which is really not bad considering the Americans who have always gotten consoles for considerably less than ourselves are paying R1700 + Tax, so say R2000-R2200.

But the question is how much does it actually cost Nintendo to make the device?

Well according to research done by UDM Technologies the cost price of creating a Nintendo 3DS is R693… but to be fair that does exclude all R&D costs which have been substantial and also excludes retailer / distributor mark up.

Knowing that the device is so cheap to manufacture however doesn’t mean we can look forward to a price cut anytime soon, the 3DS is currently highly sort after and until that demand starts to drop, say next year September, we are going to be paying this same price. So go get yours today and start amazing your friends and family.

If you haven’t yet then make sure to read our hardware review and keep an eye peeled for software reviews starting next week.
