Thousands upon thousands of people are still playing the hell out of Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – especially on PC, where modders have completely transformed the game, as well as kept it looking modern. There are mods for just about everything, with the most impressive ones being those that make the game border on the photorealistic. You may wonder though, why there aren’t any great big total conversion mods, or anything that’s all encompassing like the iCEnhancer mods for GTA IV. It’s because mods for Skyrim, through the Steam Workshop at least, have been restricted to 100MB. That restriction is gone.
The Skyrim Creation Kit has been given a great big (beta!) update, removing the restriction. It means modders, creators and tinkerers are free to fiddle with the game to their heart’s content.
- Creation Kit now supports unlimited file sizes for mods on the Steam Workshop.
- The Preview Image is limited to no larger than 1 MB.
Skyrim Launcher
- The Skyrim Launcher no longer downloads mods from Steam Workshop. Downloads are now managed by the Steam Client. The Skyrim Launcher updates the game after the Steam Client finishes the download.
The Skyrim Launcher and Creation Kit are in beta, so you’ll need to opt in to start your unfettered modding.
- Log into Steam
- Click on your game Library.
- Right click on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and select Properties.
- Click on the Betas tab, and from the drop down select beta – Skyrim Beta
- Next from Library, access Tools from the drop down.
- Right click on Creation Kit and select Properties.
- Click on the Betas tab, and from the drop down select beta – Creation Kit Beta
- Steam will now restart. After Steam restarts, Skyrim will be updated to the Beta version currently available.

The urge to jump back in to Skyrim – for the millionth time – is slowly overtaking my need to finish a second Inquisition playthrough. With W3 in sight I might as well just give up on DA, at least until they finish the game properly.
edit: by “finish the game” I meant release all DLC… of course.

It is already at perfection levels for me.
Survival mods plus graphics mods plus no fast travel=perfection.
I have to plan all my quests. Which involves getting enough food, water and firewood, and loading into my horse.

Only used the Steam Workshop for a handful of downloads, didn’t use them much anyway.
Mostly every great mod available can be found on the Skyrim Nexus pages. Best source for mods I’ve come across (support +/-50 games).
Nexus can be quite harsh with their rules though, if you want the copyright-infringing or banned-for-some-arb-reason mods, you can find a lot of them them at loverslab.com (NSFW) and foreign sites, often full of character models such as Sub-Zero, Lich King, etc. (mainly Russian for some reason)
