Bugger Resolution-Gate and this obsession with eating 1080 peas, the red-headed stepchild of vegetables. The true issue in gaming should be all about frame rates. Nothing beats the silky smooth 60 frames per second of some games, and no matter how much I’m sold on a game aiming for a “cinematic” feel with 24 to 30 frames per second, I’ll go for the soap opera look every time. The Crew is one such game that is going for that 30fps territory. But it might be driving faster on PC.
According to Ubisoft, despite The Crew being locked in at 30 fps on the PC beta, plans were underway to give PC gamers an official option to have the game run at that speed or double at 60 fps. “Ultimately the performance and the frame rate will be down to the players hardware. A few people in the closed beta found ways of unlocking the frame rate,” lead designer Serkan Hassan told TechRadar.
My understanding at this moment is that we’ll be allowing players to do that come the full version as well, unless some other issue comes to light which would block that in any way.
Even if Ubisoft and developer True Reflections couldn’t do that frame-rate unlock themselves, I highly doubt that PC gamers wouldn’t be able to do it themselves. And this isn’t just technolust talking, but when it comes to racing games, smoother is indeed better. You can easily enjoy a game at a lower frame rate in different genres, but you can enjoy a racing game better when it runs like a soap opera. That might just be me though, but that’s a frame rate which should and always must be maxed out for that genre, no matter the platform.
Sorry PS4 and Xbox One gamers, you’ll have to enjoy the game at 30 fps then.

Ironically, you need a 120hz monitor/100hz TV to enjoy the full benefits of a game running at 60fps.

Nope 60hz is perfect for 60fps games. For 120fps games a 120hz monitor will be perfect. If you play a game at 60fps on a 120fps monitor you will have the same micro stutter problems as when you play 30fps on a 60hz monitor

There must be something wrong with me, I didn’t notice when playing the demo. I feel like I’ve failed my race.

Why not unlock it or quadruple the limit? The master race has 144hz G Sync displays?!?! 60fps, while better than 30 is still not ideal for a racing game. These damn ports.

I recently upgraded my gpu to something more fitting of the MasterRace, and while playing gw2 in Glorious 1080p and 60fps. I used to get 25-30fps with the old gpu…I decided to try put the frame limiter on to 30fps and my word…people say you cant notice a difference…but try playing on 60fps, then switching immediately to 30…its horrible!
