Shadow of Mordor photo mode worse on Xbox One

SoM photo mode

You know how good Shadow of Mordor is? I finished the game, wrote my review, and I’ve still gone back for more game time. Now they’ve added a photo mode so you can take the perfect images of all your best and worst in-game moments. But it’s not so simple on Xbox One.

How did we ever live without sharing our in-game moments? It seems everyone is posting pictures to twitter or Facebook with their crazy times in awesome games. Shadow of Mordor wants that picture to be better than the usual screenshot – you can treat it like Instagram now. Just check out this video explaining all the options:

More than just removing the UI, you can adjust the field of view, the camera angles and even add filters and frames. It all seems a bit much to me – I have no interest in adding a blood or grime filter to my image. However, it does seem rather cool that I can now capture that moment when I get all the Warchief’s bodyguards to kill him, or when I vastly underestimate a sword mission and end up totally surrounded by orcs.

Of course, when rumor of this first leaked, NeoGAF looked into the matter and determined that it would actually be useless on Xbox One. Sure, you can still use the photo editing mode, but you can’t actually save or share that image from Xbox One. Except, you can, but it’s a serious mission.

According to the official notes of how to make use of this new option, it’s a simple 9-step process on PC or PS4. On Xbox One, it requires 19 steps, including taking a video of your photo, uploading it to OneDrive and fixing it in MSPaint. Yeah, I think I’ll stick with pressing my PS4’s share button when I want to show off my awesome (lack of) photo editing skills.

Damn 999MB patch on Steam, Kinda don’t see the point in the photomode though since there is already many ways to take photo.

So what? before I smite thee Urok with my mighty sword and with my wraith like abilities that I shall brand you like a cow in the meadow . let me take a selfie

          What’s up with PayDay 2?
I saw it’s on a great sale this weekend. I’ve already sunk over 140 hours into that one. Love it.

            Eish man. That’s bad.
I’ve had endless problems like that with Origin, but none with Steam yet.

It’s alright, just the way the game files are in a archive type file, the patches should sort it out and bring it to latest, else if not, redownload from steam, It’s on a good deal, won’t get the dlc though that can wait till Winter sale.

The Big Bank DLC isn’t THAT great. The only one I can really recommend is die Sniper pack (if you like sniper rifles)

My number 1 is the Hotline Miami themed dlc, but that I’ll grab on sale

That is a pretty cool DLC, I must say.

Shame, your article title makes it seem like the devs of the game dropped the ball or didn’t do a good job, but it’s really the lack of a screen shot option for the One that lets it down. At this rate, MS will patch a screen shot mode in before Christmas.

At the rate at which MS patches things, I’d give it a month.

Can’t you just move your Kinect so that it is looking at the screen? Or does that create some paradox of DRM trying to DRM itself?

To be fair, it’s only 9 steps the first time, and that includes actually loading the game. Once in game (PC / PS4), each photo is a three step process: Press LS, adjust photo, save.

I presume the XbOne steps are also reduced… so no particular bias. I would love a feature that forces me to quit the game each time I took a screenshot 🙂

The game is really good, but it’s not THAT good. It’s in my top 5 games for the year, no doubt, but it’s not the best game I’ve played this year. With Beyond Earth coming I have a feeling I’ll need to make space on that top 5 list of mine.

Don’t worry though Zoe, I’m sure I can rival you in Paint skillz. Madness.

I just use my F12 in Steam to catch some epic moments in the game every now and again and post it to my activity page. Just to make people jealous.
