Say hello to the sexy Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

Secrets aren’t so secret anymore. That couldn’t be truer for Samsung’s new Galaxy line, which had everything but a few software features leaked earlier this week. Yes, there are going to be two flagship devices this year. Yes, Samsung is still giving their curved edges lots of love. And yes, the Galaxy range looks exciting for the first time in years.

Samsung has formally revealed the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which are identical apart from one major design difference. The Edge, as was the case with the Note Edge, will feature Samsung’s premium curved edges. Both sides of the phone have a curved Gorilla Glass finish, which can have its own set of app icons and message bars. The S6 itself looks very different too. Samsung has woken up to the fact that metal is in, casing both S6 models in an aluminium finish that is to die for. The 5.1’ Gorilla Glass and QHD displays round off what has to be one of the sexiest smartphones on the market right now. A testament to how Samsung wants to stay relevant.

These exterior changes come at a price though. Say goodbye to MicroSD memory, removable batteries and waterproof design. The S6 is a lot like an iPhone now, with internal memory being your only option. There’s 32, 64 and 128GB versions being made available, stacked with an octacore processor and a lighting fast 3GB of DDR4 memory. There’s also going to be fully wireless charging now – in case you have issues with plugging things in the correct way around. Samsung claims that 10 minutes on charge will give you four hours of battery life as well, which sounds pretty incredible.

Samsung has also scaled back their horrendous TouchWiz UI, redesigning some icons and generally taking out a lot of the bloatware. Both S6 models will ship with Android 5.0, with a cleaner Samsung touch up than previous years. The S5 was notoriously filled with a substantial amount of useless software, so it’s great to see the S6 not making the same mistakes. Speaking of which, the S6 will sport a 5 mega-pixel front facing camera, while a new 16 mega-pixel camera with optical image stabilisation takes up the rear.

It’s no surprise then that the S6 is one of the most exciting smartphones Samsung has revealed since their S3 dominated the market three years ago. It’s going to be out in South Africa on April 10th, so keeps your eyes peeled on service provider pre-orders. I would expect orders to sky rocket this year.

I agree. I’ll stick with my Note 3 thank you very much… Or switch over to the Xperia Z3 or whatever successor it gets at the end of this year.

I’m super excited. Watched the whole live streaming and I was so impressed with how they once again improved on their previous phone. The way they continuously create advanced technology is so impressive and no one can deny that. #NextIsNow
I just hope the prices won’t be too high and similar to what the S4 and S5 was at launch.

And they’ll stop supporting the S6 completely in terms of updates, despite it only being a year old. Want the new OS? You’ll have to buy the new phone. So sorry.

Good looking devices. I have a newish Note 3 I’m trying to swap for a Sony Xperia Z3 before Sony sell off their smartphone division. I’ll throw in a Gear 2 to sweeten the deal. I’ve been mostly happy with Samsung but want the Z3 for my PS4.

I had a HTC One X, so I upgraded to a Sony Z3. Taking the risk of jumping to a new company phone make. I am not really impressed and kinda feel I should have waited for the HTC M9 release.

I really do not see the point with this yearly phone releases. This is DLC hardware … really.

a DLC with a premium price … so it is not just software companies that abuse this yearly BS releases now …

I agreed, I bought the Note 3 going.. All my games and apps are gonna run like a BOSS! Now it basically feels like a Samsung S2 with a big screen.

Its pointless updating really, its not as if the apps need CPU or GPU that are THAT great to run games anyway. Anything S4 or S3 gen based is all you need. CPU, GPU and RAM wise I mean.

ok I am going to say this now and might be thrown with fish and old vegetables…the S6 looks like a bloody ripoff of the iPhone 6. it even has the curved edges, no removable battery and the same GB models as what apple offers. these guys really need to start thinking out of the box and come up with their own designs.

Ahem….Curved screen? Theres only so much you can deviate in desiging a phone, entire front and back of the S6 is glass, Gorilla glass 4. Typical fanboy mentality, oh they copied that and this they lazy blah blah blah wa wa wa, who cares, its miles better than the S5 and thats all that matters.

Was referring to the curved metal side designs, the mic jack at the bottom now, no more removable back panne, the same sound holes for the speakers.plus it is usually the fanboys that lash out and say: such fanboy talk. I am making an observation about the outside design. Not the interior works

The S6 is a techno enthusiasts dream come true. Most of the items we are fussing about points to our high data cost. The S6 and Edge would probably cost more than the iPhone 6 Plus because it’s so much more advanced in every department.

I wonder if these companies will ever make reasonably sized phones for people who like to use their phones one handed most of the time. All these 5″+ phones are two handed phones. I just want a top of the range phone that works well in one hand.r

You’re not serious, are you? If you can figure out how to, go to your nearest search engine and type in “Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge”. See what comes up.
