Free stuff

Community giveaways are back! That’s right, we have another fantastic present for you guys because not only do we love our community, but you all seem to enjoy each other, too.

A donor who wishes to remain anonymous has generously given us a the full Quest for Glory pack from GOG.com. This includes:

  • Quest for Glory 1-5
  • Both the VGA and original version of Quest for Glory 1
  • 6 Manuals
  • 2 Maps
  • Reference Card
  • 3 Famous Explorers’ Correspondence Courses
  • Hero Journal

Whether or not you win, you can also download Quest for Glory II, for free, here.

Alright, so how do you enter? Well, I’m trying to figure out our community get togethers, and I’d like ideas from you all. What are some venues near you that you think would be nice? We’re trying to spread out our events at various locations, but obviously only know our locals best. This isn’t just limited to Joburg – would you like to see events in Durban, Bloem, or PE? Would you be interested in organizing it? Don’t worry, it’s just a matter of picking a pub/bar/restaurant/venue and showing up. We’d love to see more community get togethers, not just in Joburg but around the country. Where would you like to see our shindigs take place?

Oh, and would you like to do anything other than drink and eat? We got some cool adventure offers for our next get together, but it may involve costs and physical exertion. Yay or nay?

All comments welcome and multiple entries will be counted – as the prize is digital, our global community is invited to participate, too. Wow, I’d love to see a lazygamer community event in another country!

Damn, that’s a lot! But then again I didn’t pace myself on Friday… I killed 15+ plates in just over an hour… only because they weren’t making what I wanted.

Hhhhmmm … I wish I could actually commit to going to a get together … but I can’t, because life. As for what to do … I don’t really mind – the kid friendly thing last time sounded great (pity I was at the in-laws, south of the border in Alberton). Who here used to game, pen-and-paper style? I have such fond memories of rolling d20’s rather than studying during varsity …

I remember playing the colour (VGA) remake of QfG 1 instead of listing to our class teacher in computer studies at high school.

“So – you want to be a hero?” Also, think I have an original CD with QfG5 on it somewhere. Not sure I could get it to work though.

I crashed QFG1 by throwing a dagger at that bouncing ballon-like thing. “Oops we didn’t think of that!” *crash* I thought it would pop – seemed obvious to me :/

I initially jumped and downloaded, though ‘AWESOME’… Then saw remake and lost interest. When playing a golden oldie I want it like that – same with the KQ / SQ / PQ 1 games that were remade and you now have to use the mouse as well – it doesn’t fit, doesn’t feel right.

QfG2 original is my best memory of the series – QfG2: Trial By Fire is the original name and it was a hectically difficult game for its time and even now – some real skill required to finish. Tons of patience highly recommended as well.

Jammed a couple of older games the other day – how many of us realise how easy new games have become? Even at hard we suffer, but its nothing compared to games of yesteryear. Those games in even Easy mode tended to involve many replays of a level, many frustrating deaths and many head scratching moments… I’m shocked to realise how bad my gaming skill has become when benchmarking against the old games…

Maybe look at doing a paintball session, or something fun – get blood flowing for all the geeks.

Either that or anything short – most people can’t commit a full day, but can do an hour or two of meetups.

Paintball also works well – many geeks are notoriously antisocial, so they get to meet up without having to have awkward converstations 🙂
