Hey PC gamers! It’s not like any of you are particularly fond of Windows 8 as it is, so the there’s every chance that you wouldn’t be affected. It seems, however, that the latest update for Microsoft’s latest version of its operating system is breaking some games.
For some or other reason, windows 8.1 has introduced a bunch of mouse input lag in to games that don’t use raw input. There’s a whole thread over on the front page of the internet detailing the issue, and the games affected.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat are apparently “close to unplayable” thanks to this new flaw. Call of Duty games and Metro 2033, likewise, aren’t as snappy as they should be. there’s a fix that helps, but doesn’t quite solve the problem:
- Right click the EXE of the game in question.
- Go to properties
- Go to the compatibility tab
- Check “run this program in compatibility mode for” and select “Windows 8.”
- Check “disable scaling on high DPI settings.”
- Check “run this program as an administrator.”
If you’re not a,ready running Windows 8.1. you really ought not worry – because Microsoft’s pulled the update from its store for other reasons; it apparently stopped a bunch of tablets from working at all.
I actually “upgraded” to Windows 8.1 this weekend, and I’ve had no issues to date. Windows 8 does seem to be infected with terrible bloatware though; it’s called Windows 8.
