Pro gamers doing it for the kids

Robert ‘PandaTank’ Botha and Silvui ‘NightEnD’ Lazar, the StarCraft 2 celebrities facing off at the StarCraft Invitational will be at a meet and greet this Friday, giving an all girls school a glimpse of what it’s like to be a pro gamer.

The St John’s Mind Sports Club and the all girls school Roedean, in association with Mind Sports South Africa will be hosting the event where learners will be able to meet the two pros. Roedean is currently the only all girls school in the country with an official eSports club. The event takes place on 15 March with no entry fee; all learners are welcome to attend the event.

Seeing pro gamers become public personalities in South Africa and get that celebrity status is really important for eSports. It means we get status, value and people want to invest in us, just like they want to invest in famous athletes.

Taking pro gaming to schools means kids are able to see just how awesome it can be and that making a living out of gaming is a viable career choice.

I like bacon and games, and occasionally I say something coherent about it. I'm not old or cynical, and I'm not the Dork Knight. I AM SHE-RA! Wait, what?

Having school children look at how awesome eSports can be is good – though saying the same on the other side of things means they’ll have one look at the word Gaming and think “virgins”.

I find it ridiculous that people are still so uninformed when it comes to eSports.
Best of luck with it – Hopefully we can sheep their way of thinking into the awesome direction.

Roedean has their own eSports club? That’s awesome! Why didn’t we get cool stuff like this when I was in school?!

Panda doesn’t look like your average geek in that photo at all.. I actually thought it was Oscar at first… which maybe isn’t the best compliment I could have come up with

This is really cool.. top dollar!! im guessing we are too old to become pro gamers now… age has slowed us down

One South African pro gamer doesn’t exactly mean gaming is a viable career choice in this country.
