Prey-2

Every generation of gaming has that one title that has been stuck in development hell for far, far too long. Games such as Duke Nukem Forever, Daikatana and Team Fortress 2 for a few examples. One other game that was seemingly going nowhere? Prey 2, a sequel to the cult classic topsy-turvy Human Head developed shooter. Details on that game have been rarer than hen’s teeth. But the latest info is overwhelmingly clear: The game is dead.

“It was game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be – we never saw a path to success if we finished it,” Bethesda vice president Pete Hines told CNET.

It wasn’t up to our quality standard and we decided to cancel it. It’s no longer in development. That wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s one that won’t surprise many folks given that we hadn’t been talking about it. Human Head Studios is no longer working on. It’s a franchise we still believe we can do something with — we just need to see what that something is.

Well that’s a pity. The first Prey game was a rather cool shooter that played around with gravity elements and gory visuals in 2006, while the sequel would have starred one US Marshall Killian Samuels. Abducted by aliens, Samuels would come down with an inconvenient case of amnesia and be forced to work his way around the alien world of Exodus as a bounty hunter in order to survive and recover his past.

While it is a pity, I can’t say that I’m too surprised. Prey 2 was announced back in 2011 already with a slick trailer, but any other info wasn’t exactly forthcoming. A right shame then, that the game got cancelled.

  1. I’ve always wondered about prey, never knew what it was about and never tried it. Only heard good things about it though.
Note: Now that the Halloween Sale is on Steam everybody’s losing their minds. Me included.

That is a big pity… The trailers and minor gameplay footage they had shown really did look impressive.

Eish… R.I.P. Prey 2. Alas, we never got to know you.

Is Evil Within as ‘dull’ as they say? I was super keen, but read some really scathing things about it. I’m just happy I have Alien Isolation to tithe me over when it comes to Survival Horror (seriously loving that game! Such a rich atmosphere).

It starts of good but then it just disintegrates into a mess. I wish I’d have bought Alien in stead. I believed the hype and paid for it 🙁

Eish… I was worried about that. I think I’ll wait till it’s on special… A serious special (or 2nd hand at BT)!

If you get a chance, get Alien – believe me, you won’t be disappointed!

Yeah, me too. And I LOVE / ADORE / WANT TO HAVE ITS CHILDREN the Elder Scrolls games… So that’s saying something. But TESO just seems to be 1 big steaming pile of broken code… And that makes me sad. I’d rather just get stuck into Skyrim… Or Oblivion… Or Morrowind… Or Elder Scrolls 1&2 again. Much more entertaining and enjoyable.

TESO for me is an MMO with the Elder Scrolls name. They’re just trying to coin in with the name, because it’s nothing like Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim. Which is really sad. Feels like they’ve violated the franchise with that game.

Yup – totally agree! I think The Elder Scrolls franchise is now sitting, quivering in a corner somewhere, rocking back-and-forth whispering “Why TESO… Why TESO…” over and over. Eish…

Haha. Exactly. Angry Joe also went at it and I think I’m a bigger fan of Skyrim than even he is.

How’s it supposed to draw people from Destiny anyways when it brings it monthly subscriptions over to the console?
