CHOSEN ONE! QWUAH!

Kaz Hirai walked onto stage, his face beaming with a glow that could attract a legion of moths towards it. Gathered below him, dozens of eager reporters, sweaty and aroused with the notion of a Playstation 4 being announced. They stood there, waiting with baited breath as Hirai gripped the microphone with a grip that showed the world how he won the 1997 thumb-wrestling tournament. Hirai opened his mouth. The audience gasped hard enough to suck the face off of some nearby squirrels. “Ladies and gentlemen”, Hirai began with. “I give to you the Playstation 4… point 2 firmware update!”.

Jokes aside, that scenario will most likely play out. Sony is hinting at something. Something that has grabbed a few new retrospectives on their Playstatyion 1, 2 and 3 consoles. See for yourself below.

If ever there was a push to get a PS4 announced, then I couldn’t think of a better lead up so far. Especially with the way that documentary 3 classes the PS3 as a previous success story. Meanwhile, famed guesstimator Michael Pachter believes that a price cut is on the horizon for the current-gen console. Speaking to Games Industry International, the Wedbush analyst predicted a “February 21” reveal on that, saying that the console will most likely retail in the $199 mark, something that Microsoft would copy by slashing the price of the Xbox 360 as well by E3.

It does make sense though. Because every time that Sony has introduced some new hardware or a new iteration of what is currently available, they’ve gone and slashed recommended retail prices on existing models and consoles. But I’m merely predicting this. See? Guesstimations, easier than John Edwards cold-reading techniques.

Don’t forget, the big Playstation announcement is scheduled for tomorrow. Or the wee hours of Wednesday morning. CURSE YOU PACIFIC TIME ZONES!

I had plans to stay up all night and stream it till the wee hours of the morning and then go to work feeling like crap, but then I thought, why not delegate. Let Darryn do all the leg work, post summaries for the masses through-out the night.

That way, I can devour it all in meaty tidbits at leisure, and wait for Poor Mr Bonthuys to collapse exhausted… like the Sir, that I am.

Anyway, I’m already waiting for the slashed PS3 prices. Daddy needs a backup PS3 slim.

The thought has crossed my mind, which is also why I figured I’d rather go to bed, and read up on it all the next day.

It should be the PS4, why would they bring out a brief history on the PS consoles and then not release the PS4?? Does not make sense to say that it might not be the PS4….

Really? inFamous? Second one was so “meh”… Really pumped for the release date of The Last Guardian. By the time I finished the 6th playthrough I realized I wasn’t going to be able to beat Shadow of the Colossus more than 4 extra times.

Yeah I liked InFamous 2 as well, I think many of the newer Sony franchises are going to benefit from the newer hardware, specifically the additional RAM. They should be able to increase the size of the world, the uniqueness of the NPC’s running around, the AI, etc… Tons of stuff they can do…just with extra RAM.

If the PS3 goes down to R1999 then I want to see the darn 12 year old PS2 drop below the R1199 that it is now. Crazy…the Gamecube was R999 10 years ago.

I NEED ME A COUPLE OF PS2s to last me a decade.

I still can’t believe its over R1000. People be making crazy profits. How many units do they still move at that price?!

I think quite a few as its a good console for kids and the game rentals are very popular. Still the best console ever made. Im still waiting for SONY to release another batch of PINK console because pink is for winners. But no more. All gone. Got to snap up a few PS2s before the shelves are empty so I never have to rely on backwards compatibility.

Plus you can make sure that the archeologists who find your room in 500 years know you had good taste and what the greatest console was (make sure to leave a note to make sure)

These guys really have to bring out something revolutionary to persuade PC gamers but I reckon the masses will soak up whatever they dish out…
