When Sony announced their acquisition of streaming serve Gaikai fans were promised that they would be able to stream PS3, PS2 and PS1 games in the near future. Fast forward today and Sony have only marginally delivered on that promise. PlayStation Now is Sony’s future of game streaming, but it seems like PS2 and PS1 titles have been dropped.
PlayStation Now enters open beta in the USA today, and many are hoping for revised pricing plans. The question that some people have is whether Sony will ever get to adding older PlayStation titles to the service, which right now just has a handful of PS3 titles. There’s no way to play some of the older Sony classics on the PS4, and Sony really isn’t making it a top priority.
Or, at the very least, senior director for PlayStation Now Jack Buser isn’t talking about it. In an interview with Kotaku, Buser avoided the question of PS2 and PS1 titles on PlayStation Now entirely. When asked about whether PS2/Ps1 titles would still make their way onto PlayStation Now, Buser redirected to talking about PS3 titles.
Currently for open-beta on PlayStation 4 we’re going to focus on PlayStation 3 games. This will be integrated into the PlayStation 4 in the US and Canada. In terms of devices that will support PlayStation Now, we’ll then be expanding from PlayStation 4 and applying the open beta on PS3, PS TV, PS Vita. And then the ultimate vision of PlayStation Now is to support a wide variety of devices.
Sony hasn’t spoken about classics coming to PlayStation Now since they first revealed the service. Some PS1/PS2 titles are still playable on the PS3 and PS Vita, but this could be the end of the road for them.

Considering Average Game size and The Age of the tech, Hell, The PSVita can play PS1 games….

It would be a silly marketing move for them should they ignore their own promises. The favour of its fans is only built on trust. I hope for their sake theyre aware of this.

Not good news, but since I am still waiting to buy PS4 I do hope that there will be more information by the end of the year. December bonus already allocated so Sony better keep their promises.

The main reason I wanted this service was to play PS2 (and some PS1) games on my VITA. Now, if they don’t do it, then its a total waste of time for me. I have a PS3 and I couldn’t give two figs about playing these games on my handheld. I hate SONY at this point. I’ll stick with my 3DS and will buy a Wii U this next gen.
