PlayStation 4 and Xbox One titles to be $60

GoodNewsEveryone

Here’s some double good news for both Xbox and PlayStation fans. Both companies have now come out and stated that the games for the PS4 and Xbox One will both top out at $60.

This is the same price as we currently have so while we all need to save to get the new consoles at least we know the games will continue to be the same price that we’ve come to expect.

Though I hate to be the bearer of bad news, have you seen the exchange rate recently? Unless something happens soon our local games are going to start topping the R700 mark on a regular basis which is more than a little depressing.

Oh and the $60 limit is only for first party titles so it is still possible the next Call of Duty or GTA could hit the R1000 mark… but then again we can simply not buy any titles that release for excessive prices.

I'm cranky, arrogant and ever so amazingly annoying but when you get to know me you will also realise I'm honest and incredibly good at describing myself... now pass me that beer
  • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

Yay for ps4 and used games :)

    • Hammersteyn

      And PS+ :)

      • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

Double YAY!! :) 700 is really depressing though TLOU was like 615. games are pretty expensive now a days. I remember when Final Fantasy 7 came out I payed just over a hundred rand

        • Hammersteyn

I know, same here. At least I traded in a couple of games to get a discount. Poor BT Games. The guy behind the counter has no idea weather MS will list them as a shop where you can trade games in.

          • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

I’ll still support them, poor lads.

          • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

            me too

          • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

South Africa isn’t even getting the One this year, I wonder if they will care enough about them…sucks though.

But man those trade ins are harsh too, traded in like 4 games got 300 which I now realize is generous.

          • Argentil

I’ve seen multiple retailers advertising preorders with a tentative November 30th release date. BTGames included. I’ve raised how they are going to sell a product that won’t validate games out of the box, they all shrug. No one knows. We’ll see what MS announce in the next few months. Maybe SA will get some love.

          • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

            I Hope SO :(

        • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

We’re being nailed by the exchange rate, but I remember scrounging up R800 for GTA on the PS2, because the interest rates were so terrible back then. Anyone remember that year? 2002ish?

          • Matthew Holliday

            yeah, R20 to the pound
            R17 to the dollar

my gran sent me like 20 pounds for my birthday, i was rich

          • Argentil

Ja, I paid R900 for FFX though. I didn’t even have a memory card.

  • Hammersteyn

I blame the mining unions for the exchange rate.

  • Admiral Chief Groot Wors

    O_O

*Runs of to buy $5 steam special*

    • Hammersteyn

I went to a steam website http://www.steamgamesales.com/ and filtered the results to $5 max. The games are either old or I don’t know any of them. For curiosity sake, which would you buy?

      • Admiral Chief Groot Wors

Hmmm, nothing there that I want (or that I already have).

But look out on Wednesday for the Midweek Madness and then most weekends they have sales as well.

    • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

Agreed. Current-gen AAA gaming is too expensive for me to maintain as a hobby

    • creative630

Them problem is you buy 3 or 4 $1-10 games because cheap and at the end of the month you end up paying $30 anyway :/ Could just save a little more and get the AAA game you really really want *ahem* thelastofus *ahem*

  • Rinceyouropinion

I do not see many next gen titles staying at $60. Lovely to tell us that now and all, but with the massive increase in coding times, learning of kits etc (most of which is because the engines can DO more) how can they keep it the same?

    • https://twitter.com/jGLZA_b00 jGLZA

As long as they don’t skimp on the collectors editions i’m moderately ok with it.

    • Jakster

Console and PC would use the same coding language and IS. There’s nothing that justifies the price even at that point. And then consoles gamers have still pay for online action. Some of the best games coming next-gen requires online only.

      • Rinceyouropinion

Damn you! What I mean is, if you look at home much they are speculating that GT5 is going to be can you imagine how much it would cost on a nextgen console. One thing they showed at E3 was the textures, surely it will take a larger team to build a game 5 times more visually appealing? Or do they have software that can write its own code (I am totally clueless, hence questions).

    • Matthew Holliday

theyl stick to 60$ and make up the rest in micro transactions.
60$ is already over most peoples limit, any more and they wont sell.

  • Jakster

Wait, I thought using a PC architecture will make games cheaper? Sony said SO!!!!

    • https://twitter.com/jGLZA_b00 jGLZA

They said it’d be cheaper to make games, not necessarily cheaper to retail.

      • creative630

Yeah, it might also mean the big studios might not close down or be liquidated as quickly (like THQ)!

        • Argentil

There’s a trend of games becoming more expensive to create, and market.
I don’t see how a game like Metro, with little manpower and resources, could make a game as fleshy and pretty as they did – and Tomb Raider, which sold 3,5 Million copies a while back, wasn’t profitable to EA. Tomb Raider was over-advertised, publicized, campaigned etc. – Tomb Raider everywhere. When will publishers learn that the majority of purchasing intent comes from a game being good, and good old word of mouth. Magazine and internet advertisements are relatively inexpensive also. Publishers are killing the industry, haemorrhaging good studios.

The pricing is not bad, the price looks a bit steep in rands coz of the exchange rate otherwise the pricing is pretty reasonable, ;)

  • Argentil

Ja, I was startled when I purchased TLoU for R620…

  • Happy Hamster

The question is , companies like Megarom ect that bring in the games here how much is there mark up price on a already ridiculous exchange rate

  • matthurstrsa

But what will the sales targets be at those prices to break even?

  • Haunted99

It seems like everyone is forgetting how bad the prices were in 08/09 when I was paying R800 per game. Resistance 2 comes to mind.

  • fred

    60 rand sounds about right

  • Holy Louis

I’m gonna go for ps4, no restrictions, no online authentication and used game thing….For some certain people, It gives… U know… Opportunities
