The petition to bring Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 to the West is magical

I’ve called out Koei-Tecmo’s Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 before, for its silly and sexist portrayal of women. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think sexuality is something to shy away from, and I’m certainly not a prude –  but let’s be honest, Dead or Alive Extreme  is teenage boy wish-fulfilment and nothing more.

It might get a pass if there was actually a decent game hidden beneath the lack of clothing, but there really isn’t. It’s not a particularly good volleyball game, and who really wants to play digital tug of war – unless your goal is to see half-naked digital women.

We know that the game isn’t being released in the west – which has some people riled up and angry, filled with furious vitriol. All because they now can’t buy a game they likely were never going to buy in the first place. Some are so angry that they’ve created a petition to get the game released in the rest of the world. That of course, is their right – and I’m not making judgements about the people who made the petition, or those who’ve signed it.

The rhetoric contained in the petition does make me smile a little though.

“This is a mistake. The puritan sensationalists are nothing but a self-glorified cabal of bullies and narcissists who are vastly outnumbered by their critics, most of whom are core gamers. The idea that any game should be withheld from its audience because of fear of depicting the female body is so outrageous that it should be called out and challenged wherever it is condoned, lest we give ground to the hackneyed pearl-clutchers who would put the world in a bottle if they had the power to.”

That’s some real fire there, some real passion. That’s not the best bit though. My favourite part of said petition is the writer’s inference that a game about bikini-clad women playing beach games is directly proportional to both happiness and comfort.

“I won’t live in a world where the comfort and happiness of a human being can be so effortlessly taken away from them by outside influences. For our lives and our hometowns, we must resist,” urges the petitioner

And really, I wish I cared about anything that much. Right now there are nearly 3000 people who’ve signed the petition, obviously signalling their purchasing intent.

In related news, Huniepot, developers of the PC dating sim HuniePop have made an offer of $1m US to Koei-Tecmo for the Western publishing rights to Dead or Alive Extreme 3. That game has its own bare anime chests, so probably won’t help the cause if DOAX3’s publishers are looking to avoid any sort of social backlash.

Again, Artists’ Freedom of Expression, sell the game as is or not sell it at all.
To modify it for political correctness then to decide how well the game did is a falsity.

Fun fact. In America cops can seize property on suspicion that it might be used for a crime alone and in most cases the cost of hiring a lawyer outweighs the cost of said property. Now the FBI have reported that in 2014 more property has been seized by the police than was stolen by criminals…

The coolest part of this is that they actually bring games under your radar that you wouldn’t have normally even bothered with. Now I want to get Dead or Alive Extreme 3 volleyball just to rub it in their smug, little crybaby faces. lol SJWs are their own worst enemy.

Say what you will, both sides of this issue tend to be hyperbolic. There’s are cases of online stores that stocked the last one being emailed endlessly with, “Wow, I’ll never shop here again because you sell this game.” (Paraphrasing, more or less).

So there is SOME form of pressure on the devs over what is a “teenage boy wish-fulfillment and nothing more.” It’s not some rape-sim or something. But nevertheless, being called a sexist these days might as well be the r-word.

On the other hand, a petition? Measuring your life’s pleasure by the ability to buy a game? There’s the hyperbole from the other side. 😐

        Not specifically *THIS* article.
In my view anyway, especially a Gaming Journo, should never applaud when a game wont be shipped, just because this game goes against his/her “views”, and the Mocking of gamers who do want to play this game FOR WHATEVER REASON (be it pervy, be it vollyball) and their efforts to be able to purchase the game locally just leaves a very sour taste in my mouth.

Why do gaming journo’s like to mock parts of their audience?

Gaming should be first. Personal views Second. Imo.

Edit: this is not directed at anybody specific. The question is a general question.

i’m still wondering why these people care what other people do or play at their own home or how they spend their money for.
Is beyond me why they want so much remove fictional art that doesn’t rapresent any human being to begin with, and not focus on REAL matters, forcing their vision to everyone and force developers to censor or ban their own games. The sad thing is that they will never play these games.

Can’t blame people who like these niche games be so angry, i think that censorship is bad in every form of art, because art is something absolute, not relative to some personal tastes.

I couldn’t agree more, and that’s why they get so much resistance from gamers. It isn’t actually about PC culture with SJWs, it’s all about control. The politics come secondary to their need to control every aspect of other people’s lives. The implication being that everyone is wrong and that their (SJW) way of thinking is absolute and infallible. “STOP YOUR WRONGTHINK, SHITLORD”

Hence why I gladly mock these mental midgets with all my heart!

I must be one of those teenagers the game’s supposedly designed for. Either that or maybe I’m a gamer and a collector instead of someone who vomits their opinion over the internet. This makes no sense if you don’t like it don’t buy buy it. Now you are probably going to lie and say you don’t watch porn. There is no way to prove that you don’t. Something that uses real women in waayyy more damaging ways than a yes a teen and adult male fantasy, dress up, dating sim, volley ball video game. You are only doing this to get attention you don’t care about this as much as you care about the image you are trying to present for yourself.
