Peter Molyneux’s damn Curiosity Cube has been opened

Ice Cube

Former legendary game designer and top of my sh$^ list waste of time Peter Molyneux had a grand dream back in November of 2012. It was a vision for a cube that was supposed to be opened on May 21, but much like his entire career over the last decade, he couldn’t even live up to that promise. It was opened last night however.

Curiosity – What’s inside the cube, was the first game from Molyneux’s studio, 22 Cans. Debuting on iOS and Android services, players have been tapping away for months now, despite the fact that Molyneux has offered plays a dick move option to add more layers to the cube, or going completely off the deep end and asking people for money to continue the “experiment”.

Still, someone tapped dat last block according to VG247, and it’s up to them whether or not they want to share the details of what was inside the cube. My guess? Either the shrivelled corpse of Milo, an Xbox One that people actually want or the last shred of Molyneux’s decency.

Nope! It’s a chance to be a WRESTLING GAMING GAAAAAAAWD! In an effort to get people to actually give a crap about Godus, Molyneux has given the winner of Curiosity a chance to not only be the god of that game, but to receive a share of the profits as well. 150 days of Molyneux waiting to show off a glorified advert for his game. I’m so angry right now, I’m going to go punch puppies. This is what Molyneux had to say in the video above:
You the person who reached the center will be the god of all people that are playing Godus. You will decide—intrinsically decide—on the rules the game is played by, will share in the success of the product. Every time people spend money on Godus you will get a small piece of that pie. You will have fame, you will have fortune, and you will have the power to introduce morals into a game.
So was that worth all the wait?

[Gavin’s Update]

I was online when Darryn found this info out last night and to say he was angry would be an understatement. But to be honest I actually think the idea and the prize is awesome.

It gives a person a once in a life time opportunity to get into the gaming industry and to control how a high profile game is going to turn out. Granted it’s also a blatant marketing stunt but that really doesn’t bother me. If Molyneux is smart enough to get people to click a freaking digital block for ages and then get people excited about his next game then good on him. He’s a special sort of genius and I for one hope that this works out for him and the winner.

It’s just a pity the winner is from the UK and not somewhere completely in the middle of nowhere, imagine little Johnny won from Oranjia… It would be awesome to see Molyneux having to deal with psychotic beliefs in his god game.

Yawwwwwwwwn…. the ‘neux is hinting at bringing a mobile God game called “Goddess” where the winner will give the designers direction on how the rules should work. Think of it like GT Academy but more godly.

So if this game is a success the person who won has, in effect, just hit the get rich quick button?

I actually think the prize is pretty cool 🙂 And rather life changing (for the person who won anyway). For the rest of us not so much. But still a pretty cool move by Molynew, Molienux, Molimoli, moly-however the heck one spells it.

I was happy with the prize, far better than I expected. Yeah it is blatant marketing in a way only Peter Molyneux could manage but it is what he promised. Cannot wait for Godus!

I am also preparing for disapointment but this is an area he has delivered on before.

Can you guys imagine the trolling that guy can do? “You will decide—intrinsically decide—on the rules the game is played by” The troll starts here…. One free miracle for every time you type “Peter is a dick”.
